Sydney Sweeney’s co-star reveals how she’s battling Hollywood backlash including MAGA whispers

Sydney Sweeney’s colleague says she’s handling the increasing negativity and intense public attention in Hollywood with remarkable resilience and strength.

Actress Kelly Reilly, known for her role in ‘Christy’, is facing intense public scrutiny, but her co-star Ben Foster says she’s handling it with remarkable strength. Foster, who plays Christy Martin’s coach and later husband in the film, believes she won’t break under the pressure.

Foster, 45, says watching Sweeney work left him stunned.

Let me tell you, Sydney really impressed me. She walks onto a set completely prepared, and it’s clear she does her homework – she even takes the time to learn everyone’s names! She’s always eager to get to work, and that kind of professionalism is so refreshing. She’s a true pro and a joy to be around, honestly.

I’d be completely exhausted by the end of the day, but she’d still train for another three hours, preparing for her next fight… She’s incredibly strong and resilient.

Few new celebrities have faced as much attention as Sweeney, who recently became the center of a major online discussion. It started when American Eagle launched a playful ad campaign referencing her looks and good genetics, jokingly connecting them to their jeans.

A playful ad quickly sparked outrage online, with critics claiming it promoted dangerous ideologies like white supremacy, eugenics, and even Nazism.

The criticism grew even stronger when people remembered that Sweeney is a registered Republican, which quickly caused a strong reaction from politically progressive users on social media.

It wasn’t her first taste of controversy, either.

In 2022, she received criticism online after posting pictures from her mother’s 60th birthday party. The photos showed family members wearing hats with the slogan ‘Make Sixty Great Again’ and shirts supporting ‘Blue Lives Matter,’ which sparked further public upset.

Foster explains that seeing Sweeney handle difficult situations—like criticism about her appearance and intense public scrutiny—increased his respect for her.

He described her perspective as very current and original, and praised her ability to navigate it all, calling her a strong and capable person.

He even praised her command of social media, a world he refuses to touch.

I don’t use any social media, and I never have. Thankfully, my team understands that and wouldn’t ask me to.

She’s really making a difference in this area, and it’s vital for young people and the future. I’m very impressed with her work.

Still, Sweeney admitted recently that the pressure can get to her.

She told Sky News she struggles to ask for help because she fears it makes her look ‘weak.’

She explained that women often feel immense pressure to appear capable and self-sufficient. When a woman asks for assistance, it’s often seen as a sign of weakness, while a man asking for the same help is generally accepted without question.

Despite everything, she found a way to get away for Thanksgiving. She traded the warm Florida Keys for a cold, snowy landscape and shared a video of herself waterskiing in a wetsuit.

Despite the 42-degree heat, she declared she was in her happy place. Fans enthusiastically responded, with one suggesting she’d be perfect as the next Bond girl.

Just a few days before, Sweeney caused a stir when she was seen at her $13 million waterfront home enjoying a jet ski ride with her boyfriend, Scooter Braun, while wearing a small burgundy bikini.

The pair looked glued to one another, laughing and leaning close as they tore across the water.

Days earlier, they’d been seen cozying up by her pool.

Their relationship has become even stronger since they were first seen together at Jeff Bezos’ wedding in June. This came after Sydney Sweeney ended her engagement to Jonathan Davino a few months prior.

People were surprised again when photos surfaced of her getting into a car with Davino after they had a private dinner at Giorgio Baldi.

According to a witness who spoke with Daily Mail, the actress seemed cheerful during the meal, and was then seen getting into the passenger seat of Davino’s car.
