Don’t miss Quartet tonight on TV! This delightful drama features beloved British actors Maggie Smith and Tom Courtenay, and was directed by a renowned Hollywood director. It’s a film packed with talent you’ll enjoy.
In the 2012 movie, Will Smith plays Jean Horton, a formerly famous singer who moves into a retirement home for performers. She quickly becomes a beloved figure among the other residents.
However, there’s one complication: Jean’s ex-husband, Reg Paget, remains resentful about their divorce. While everyone else at home encourages her to sing, Reg brings up old hurts, making Jean hesitant to use her voice again.

Dustin Hoffman’s first time directing, the film Quartet, will be shown tonight at 11pm on BBC Two. It will also be available on BBC iPlayer right after it airs. If you want to watch it now, you can stream it on Sky Cinema or Prime Video.
The drama boasts a stellar cast featuring Sheridan Smith, Gwyneth Jones, Michael Gambon, Billy Connolly, Andrew Sachs, Pauline Collins, Trevor Peacock, along with Smith and Courtenay.

The drama was both a commercial and critical success. It earned $59.5 million in theaters on an $11 million budget, and currently has an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 143 reviews.
Reviewers enjoyed the film’s heartwarming humor and emotional moments, noting it delivered exactly what audiences would expect – and did so well. The Austin Chronicle called it satisfying, and The Detroit News described it as a ‘lovely little charm bracelet,’ praising the film’s excellent cast.
So, according to a review in The New Republic, it sounds like Hoffman really enjoyed working with everyone on set – they said all the actors, who were apparently living together in a shared house during filming, were fantastic people. It was a really positive vibe, apparently!

The Hollywood Reporter also commended the film, noting that Dustin Hoffman’s first time directing—a story about musicians later in life—is charming and appealing, especially for mature viewers.
I’ve been checking out what’s new on BBC iPlayer, and they’ve got some great stuff! I noticed they’re streaming the thriller Official Secrets with Keira Knightley and Matt Smith, and everyone’s been talking about the romcom The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine – I’m excited to finally watch that one!
Quartet airs at 11pm on BBC Two before streaming on BBC iPlayer.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can purchase Ariana & Witches at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
