Live-Action KPop Demon Hunters Performance At Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade

This Thanksgiving, we got a glimpse of what a live-action adaptation of KPop Demon Hunters could be, and it was fantastic! The show quietly launched on Netflix this summer and quickly became a surprise hit, gaining a large following and becoming the most-watched original series on the platform.

The movie became incredibly popular, leading Netflix to do something unusual: release a singalong version in theaters even though it was already available for streaming. Remarkably, it still became the number one movie in theaters! Netflix is definitely looking for ways to build on this success and make even more content. While a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is scheduled for 2029, that’s likely just the beginning of what they have planned.

HUNTR/X’s Latest Golden Performance Gives Us A Taste Of Live-Action KPop Demon Hunters

HUNTR/X – the group consisting of EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami – performed their song “Golden” live at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. A group of dancers accompanied them as they sang for the enthusiastic crowd. While they had previously performed the song on The Tonight Show, this parade performance more closely resembled the energy of their full concerts.

A video of the “Golden” performance was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the account EJAE Updates. The video shows Ken Jeong filming the performance on his phone, and he appeared very proud of the performers – mirroring the enthusiasm of his character, Bobby, from the movie. It felt like a moment straight out of the film.

Since KPop Demon Hunters became a huge hit for Netflix, people have been discussing potential follow-ups – like sequels or TV series. There’s even been talk of making a live-action version. With live-action remakes of animated favorites like Moana and How to Train Your Dragon happening, it feels like we’ll see more and more animated movies get this treatment.

If Netflix immediately starts making a live-action version of KPop Demon Hunters after the original film, that would be particularly surprising. Any remake would likely be a weak copy, unable to match the original’s energy and visual flair. The original is far more dynamic, heartfelt, and thrilling than a remake could ever be.

Why There Might Never Be A Live-Action KPop Demon Hunters Adaptation

Maggie Kang, the creator and co-director of KPop Demon Hunters, was once open to a live-action remake, but now she’s unsure it would work. She feels the characters wouldn’t fit in a realistic setting, saying it would feel ‘too grounded.’ For now, this Thanksgiving concert seems like the best way to experience the story.
