NCIS legend Mark Harmon glows after a trip to LA post office as fans shower him with mail after highly anticipated return to franchise spin-off

Mark Harmon, best known for his role as Leroy Jethro on NCIS, has been seen in new photos – his first since reprising the character on television.

On November 17, the 74-year-old was spotted carrying a large stack of mail near his home in West Los Angeles, and people seemed excited to see him.

I always notice how down-to-earth Harmon is – he was wearing a simple blue Carhartt hoodie, light blue jeans, and comfy blue and gray sneakers! It was clear he’s incredibly popular; he even needed an assistant just to handle all the packages arriving for him. It’s amazing to see someone so successful stay so grounded.

He came home through the light rain, happily walking with Dave, his faithful pit-bull mix, right beside him.

This sighting happened only a week after Mark Harmon unexpectedly appeared in a special episode connecting NCIS and NCIS: Origins on CBS. It was his first major on-screen role in four years, following his retirement from acting, though he continues to work behind the scenes as an executive producer.

The show’s episodes, which aired on Veterans Day, introduced a young Leroy—portrayed by Austin Stowell—as he looked into the death of a Navy officer in a quiet town.

The story quickly moves to the present day, and fresh evidence leads detectives to revisit a case that had long gone unsolved.

Okay, so I remember when Harmon briefly showed up on Origins back in the premiere – it was amazing, even if it was just a quick peek! But honestly, I always loved that it was his voice guiding us through everything. He was the one narrating each episode, pulling the strings from behind the scenes, and it just felt… right. He wasn’t always on screen, but he was everywhere in the show, you know?

According to Harmon, the pitch for the crossover from co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal was simply too good to ignore.

In a statement released on October 28th, Jed Harmon expressed his admiration for the narrative work David and Gina are creating on the show, Origins.

The writers are still exploring new territory and really delving into the characters’ pasts. They had a great idea for bringing back Gibbs, which I thought was perfect timing. I’m excited for fans to see it.

Harmon bid farewell to his beloved character in an emotional exit from NCIS in 2021.

Harmon spoke emotionally about leaving his role after more than twenty years, sharing how much he enjoyed and appreciated playing Agent Gibbs.

The actor, who has been nominated for an Emmy, explained that what consistently attracts them to the role is the opportunity to portray a complex character and continue to find new and interesting ways to play it.

He explained in 2022 that the character’s storyline felt genuine and appropriate, given the choices made.

Reports from last year indicated the network dismissed co-creator Donald P. Bellisario in 2007, four years after the show began, in order to satisfy Mark Harmon.

E News reports that cast members of NCIS, including Mark Harmon, said the difficult and negative atmosphere created by producer Donald Bellisario made it hard to film the show.

Mark Harmon’s acting career extends beyond his work on NCIS. He first appeared as Fielding Carlisle on the 1980s soap opera Flamingo Road, and after that show ended, he went on to star in the series St. Elsewhere.

He went on to appear in several films, including “Let’s Get Harry” (1986), “Summer School” (1987), “The Presidio” (1988), “Stealing Home” (1988), and later, “Freaky Friday” (2003).

That same year, I was thrilled to take on the role of Leroy in NCIS, and honestly, it became a huge part of my life for almost twenty years! I was even nominated for a People’s Choice Award six times, and I was so grateful to win Favorite TV Crime Drama Actor in 2017. It was a truly special experience.

He was famously named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1986, and decades later, in 2019, he returned to the cover to share his thoughts on staying successful for so long.

Mark and his wife, Pam Dawber – who famously starred in the 1980s sitcom Mork & Mindy – have two sons: Sean, age 37, and Ty, age 33.

Mark shared with People magazine that he believes the key to his successful marriage (they married in 1987) is that he and his wife were both mature – in their 30s – when they tied the knot, meaning they’d likely already made most of their youthful mistakes.

‘That’s probably the closest I have to what the key is,’ he said.

He spoke lovingly about his wife, expressing how proud he was of both his marriage and of her as an individual.
