“Gripping” and “high-stakes” British action thriller from creator of Netflix’s Hostage gets first look

A first look has been released for Prisoner, a new British action thriller from the writer of Hostage, Matt Charman. The Sky series follows a prison transport officer who must go on the run while handcuffed to a prisoner after their vehicle is attacked.

I just got my first glimpse of the new series, and it looks amazing! I saw Tahar Rahim – you might know him from The Serpent – and Izuka Hoyle (Big Boys) running from a car, and it’s already got me hooked. They really look the part!

The thriller Prisoner is a tense, high-stakes story about officer Amber Hoyle, who must transport Tibor Rahim, a dangerous and notorious inmate.

What to Read Next

He’s scheduled to give evidence in court against a powerful criminal organization, but when their car is attacked, Amber unexpectedly finds herself relying on him for survival.

According to the story description, the only people left alive are handcuffed and trying to escape, needing to reach their goal safely and quickly.

As they journey forward, the fragile partnership between the characters faces increasing strain as a dangerous organization hunts them down. Trust becomes a dangerous tool, and just staying alive presents a difficult moral challenge, pushing Amber to question her own limits and how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect those she cares about.

The series boasts a strong supporting cast including Eddie Marsan (known for Back to Black), Catherine McCormack (28 Weeks Later), Leonie Benesch (September 5), Finn Bennett (Black Doves), Sam Troughton, Ken Nwosu, Laurie Davidson (The Girlfriend), Brían F. O’Byrne (Conclave), and Youssef Kerkour (Lockerbie: A Search For Truth).

Charman developed and wrote the series, and Otto Bathurst, known for directing Peaky Blinders, directed all six episodes.

The Netflix series Hostage, featuring Suranne Jones of Vigil, launched in September and quickly gained popularity with viewers.

The series features Julie Delpy (known from the Before trilogy), Corey Mylchreest (Queen Charlotte), and Lucian Msamati (Conclave). It centers on Abigail Dalton, the UK Prime Minister, who faces a crisis when her husband is kidnapped during a summit with the French President.

Prisoner will premiere on Sky and NOW in 2026, with an exact release date yet to be confirmed.
