James Cameron has walked back his previous claim that Avatar 4 was about 25% complete, admitting the film isn’t necessarily happening. He’s currently preparing for the release of Avatar 3: Fire and Ash next month and recently discussed the movie’s budget and financial considerations in an interview.
When Matthew Belloni asked about the budget for an Avatar film, the speaker responded with a clear refusal to disclose the information, stating that such a question should be directed to Disney CEO Bob Iger instead.
When asked about what Bob Iger might say, Cameron responded that it was up to Iger, as it was his investment. He then explained the financial situation, stating they needed to earn a huge amount of money – essentially, twice as much as they spent – just to break even.

The director believes Fire and Ash will be profitable, but questioned whether it would be successful enough to warrant a sequel.
He said, “If this is the end of my involvement, I’m okay with it.” He plans to write a book about the experience, but he doesn’t foresee any future Avatar movies being made without his close involvement. However, he’s reached a point where he doesn’t want the project to completely consume his life.

Cameron went on to say he would “absolutely” be ready to walk away if he had to.
This news follows the director’s announcement last year that production on the fourth film was already underway. They told ScreenRant that they had completed roughly a quarter of the movie.
He explained that the technology is now exactly what they need, and while they continue to make small improvements, they’ve essentially reached their goal.

The filmmakers intentionally structured the story around time travel. Cameron explained that they spent seven years developing the concept and four years filming both movies simultaneously, all leading up to the time jump.
The real magic isn’t in the technology itself, but in the talent and vision of the artists creating it. It’s a deeply creative process, pure artistry really. Right now, a huge team of people are working together, carefully coordinating everything to make sure it’s absolutely perfect.
The movie Fire and Ash picks up the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) on the planet Pandora. It will also introduce two new groups – the Ash Clan and The Wind Traders – to the world of the film.
The new Avatar movie, Fire and Ash, will arrive in UK cinemas on December 19th. Both the original Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water are currently available to stream on Disney+.
