MTV viewers sent into meltdown after Teen Mom star makes wild claim about fan-favorite show

Fans of MTV’s ‘Teen Mom‘ are worried the show has been cancelled after Cory Wharton suggested it might be ending.

The 34-year-old TV star, who first appeared on the show in 2018 during its seventh season, claimed in an online video that the series had been unexpectedly cancelled. However, the Daily Mail has learned that this isn’t true.

I recently saw a clip where Randall Wharton shared that, as far as he knows, there are currently no plans for the show to come back. He said he hadn’t heard anything about a return, which is definitely surprising news for fans!

He announced to his 1.4 million followers that the project is essentially finished, explaining they haven’t filmed anything in about a year.

Sources familiar told Daily Mail that there is no truth to his claims.

Teen Mom, the first spin-off of 16 and Pregnant, premiered in 2009 and ran until 2021.

Starting in 2022, the show was rebranded as Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. Two seasons of the new version have aired so far.

Wharton first appeared on Teen Mom with his former partner, Cheyenne Floyd, and their daughter, Ryder, who was eight years old at the time.

After he and I went our separate ways, he found love again with Taylor Selfridge, who I also followed from Ex on the Beach. They built a beautiful family together and now have two adorable daughters, Mila, who’s five, and little Maya, who’s three. It’s lovely to see him so happy.

Wharton and Selfridge had a falling out earlier this year, but they’ve put their differences aside to support each other while their youngest daughter recovers from recent heart surgery.

The second season of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter finished airing in May 2025.

The show featured returning cast members Catelynn Baltierra, Maci McKinney, Amber Portwood, and Floyd, who previously dated cast member Wharton.

There has yet to be confirmation of another series.

In his video, Wharton shared that Cheyenne is now pregnant. He then admitted he wasn’t sure what else to say.

Today is a difficult day. It’s something I’ve always anticipated – the moment it would all be over. I’m trying to process how I’ll feel and what the future holds.

I always expected that if Teen Mom was going to end, we’d have one final season to properly wrap things up and leave the fans with a positive feeling about the show’s conclusion.

It just ended suddenly, without any resolution. They didn’t continue the storyline, and I actually stopped watching because of it. I have no idea what happened with any of the families in the last season.

These statements followed MTV’s recent cancellation of Rob Dyrdek’s comedy show, Ridiculousness, after it ran for 14 years and 46 seasons.

The show will keep showing old episodes until 2026, but it won’t be creating any new ones.

MTV canceled Ridiculousness shortly after announcing the end of Catfish: The TV Show, which had been on the air for 13 years.

The reality TV show that revealed the realities of online dating has been cancelled after nine seasons.

Some MTV fans have been worried for the network’s future given the cancelations

One Reddit user suggested MTV is undergoing major changes next year, pointing to the cancellation of ‘Ridiculousness’ after 49 seasons as evidence. They expressed sadness that the show didn’t reach a milestone 50th season.

One person commented that shows like Ridiculousness, Catfish, and Teen Mom really defined what MTV was known for. They added that they’re unsure about the network’s future direction.

Honestly, if the rumors are true about them finally canceling ‘Teen Mom,’ I’m not even shocked! I’ve been saying for years that the show had run its course. It really feels like it’s been over for a long time now, so it’s about time MTV finally made the call. I mean, it was inevitable, right?

According to someone familiar with the company, the recent cuts at MTV aren’t about saving money – they’re about trying out different kinds of programming.

MTV is evolving for the future and will offer a more carefully selected range of shows. They plan to return to the channel’s roots of experimentation by trying out new types of programs and featuring diverse creators and content.
