December 1st is looking like a big day for fans of the X-Men! Marvel’s mutants are becoming popular again at Disney, starting with the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie in 2024 and continuing with the return of the original cast from the Fox films in Avengers: Doomsday. Now, exciting news about one of the classic X-Men movies is adding even more energy to this comeback.
Starting December 1st, fans can stream X-Men: First Class on HBO Max, adding another option for enjoying this popular movie in the X-Men series.
Since the movie is already streaming on Disney+, this likely means it will be available on both platforms throughout December, giving viewers more options for how and when to watch.

As a huge movie fan, I’m really thrilled about this! First Class is often talked about as being one of the very best X-Men films – and for good reason. I love how it’s set in the super cool 1960s, and it gave us such a great, new look at characters like Magneto, Professor X, and Mystique. Fassbender, McAvoy, and Lawrence were just perfect in their roles!
As a huge X-Men fan, I always say this movie was a total game-changer. After the somewhat shaky X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it really breathed new life into the whole franchise. What’s cool is, looking back, it’s basically the foundation for so many of the X-Men movies 20th Century Fox made both before and after it came out – it’s a classic origin story and still holds up really well on rewatches.
First Class was uniquely well-received because it didn’t disrupt the established X-Men timeline, unlike later films like Days of Future Past. This independence made the movie feel complete and emotionally satisfying, letting fans appreciate its new take on the franchise without worrying about complicated changes to the story. As a result, characters introduced in First Class – like Emma Frost, Apocalypse, and a reimagined Jean Grey – are popular choices among fans for potential appearances in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, especially after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars reset the multiverse.
Whether you’ve been following the story for years or are just discovering it, December 1st is a great time to revisit this important part of the mutant saga.
This team isn’t the one fans anticipated seeing return to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though the characters are familiar, it’s the original actors from the early 2000s reprising their roles, sporting updated costumes for a new adventure.
HBO Max isn’t only bringing over characters from the X-Men universe; a selection of well-known movies will also be available on the streaming service next month.
Other Major HBO Max December Additions
Atomic Blonde

As a big action movie fan, I’m really excited to see Atomic Blonde back on a major streaming service – it’s a fantastic film and a great watch in early December!
The film’s incredible fight scene in the hallways and on the stairs remains a standard for action choreography today, so it’s great news for fans of action movies like John Wick that it’s available again.
The Goonies

The classic adventure film, The Goonies, is now available on HBO Max, riding the wave of popularity for 1980s movies like E.T. and Back to the Future that continue to be popular with streaming audiences.
The Goonies star recently addressed whether or not he will return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday.
Shin Godzilla

Now that Godzilla is popular again with films like Godzilla Minus One and the MonsterVerse, fans can stream Shin Godzilla on HBO Max and experience a highly praised, unique take on the classic monster.
Shin Godzilla director Shinji Higuchi shut down the idea of doing a direct sequel anytime soon.
Ne Zha

As a huge movie fan, I couldn’t have been more excited to see this land on HBO Max! Honestly, the timing is perfect. Everyone’s talking about the franchise now that Ne Zha 2 became the biggest movie of 2025 globally – and it absolutely crushed the box office in China, which is what really propelled it to that level.
Miss Congeniality

Fans can now stream Miss Congeniality on HBO Max, offering a chance to enjoy Sandra Bullock’s beloved performance. Get ready for memorable moments – and plenty of jokes, like the classic “April 25th” line – to resurface on social media!
Perfect Blue

Satoshi Kon’s film Perfect Blue continues to be relevant today, especially as we talk more about how people present themselves online and the one-sided relationships that can form with public figures.
Now available on HBO Max, the 1997 film is reaching a new audience and continuing to be recognized by critics as a landmark psychological thriller – and a highly influential animated one at that.
