Hollywood star-fronted new detective thriller with a twist gets first look as release date is confirmed

The detective drama Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman, finally has a release date! Based on the popular books by Patricia Cornwell, the series follows forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta and will premiere on Prime Video on March 11, 2026.

Based on the screenplay by Liz Sarnoff, the series Scarpetta follows Kay (Kidman), a medical examiner who’s skilled at solving crimes. She must stop a serial killer while also confronting her own troubled history.

A talented medical examiner is driven to give a voice to victims and catch a serial killer. As she investigates, she’s also forced to confront a pivotal case from her past, fearing it could destroy her career.

This thrilling series uses the world of forensic science to go beyond just solving crimes. It explores the complicated minds of criminals and the detectives who hunt them, showing the heavy price people pay when they’re determined to find justice, no matter what.

In her quest for justice, Scarpetta deals with difficult relationships, especially a strained connection with her sister Dorothy. She also has to overcome old resentments, both at work and in her personal life, and confront hidden truths that could destroy everything she’s achieved.

Okay, so this game (or movie, honestly!) has some seriously big names attached. Nicole Kidman isn’t just in it, she’s also helping produce! And get this – Jamie Lee Curtis, a total Hollywood icon, plays my character’s sister, Dorothy. It’s pretty cool seeing those two together!

Bobby Cannavale plays Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker is FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose joins the cast as Kay’s niece, Lucy Farinelli-Watson, who is skilled with technology.

The show Scarpetta will jump between two time periods. One timeline will follow current events, while the other will show flashbacks to the 1990s, featuring younger versions of the main characters – Kidman, Curtis, Cannavale, and Baker – when Kay first began her career as a Chief Medical Examiner.

I’m so excited to hear that Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish will be playing the characters when they were younger! It’s going to be really interesting to see their take on those roles.

Now that the first images and release date are out, Scarpetta is creating a lot of excitement, especially among readers who love Bernard Cornwell’s popular novels.

The Scarpetta series, debuting in 1990, has sold over 120 million copies around the world, first introducing readers to the character Kay.

The popular book series now includes 29 titles, with the newest, Sharp Force, released in October 2025.

Scarpetta will land on Prime Video on 11 March 2026.
