Robert Irwin, like sis Bindi, wins ‘DWTS,’ so crocodiles aren’t his only claim to fame

After a season filled with exciting dances inspired by TikTok trends, Disney favorites, and popular songs, Robert Irwin and Witney Carson have been named the champions of Season 34 of “Dancing With the Stars!”

Crikey!

Robert Irwin, the son of the late Steve Irwin and a wildlife conservationist himself, has followed in his sister Bindi’s footsteps by winning the Mirrorball trophy. Bindi previously won the trophy on Season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars” back in 2015.

Okay, so Season 34 wrapped up with a really interesting mix of contestants: Alix Earle and Dylan Efron, who are huge on social media, the actress Elaine Hendrix, and Jordan Chiles, a fantastic gymnast currently at UCLA. The finale on Tuesday was all about the dancing – three rounds, actually. First, the judges picked what everyone danced to, then came the instant dance challenge – which is always so stressful because they don’t know the song or style until the last minute! – and finally, a freestyle round where they could really show off. And get this – Carson Irwin absolutely killed it during the instant dance challenge and got a perfect score!

The season’s winner was determined by a combination of the judges’ votes and those from the public.

Okay, so the judges really seemed to favor Irwin, a 21-year-old, and Carson, who’s 32 – they collectively earned a 29! That put them comfortably in first place. Right behind them was Earle, and then Chiles snagged third. Efron and Hendrix rounded out the competition, but those top two were definitely the standouts.

Before the final episode, Carson shared on TikTok that she and Irwin were both injured.

I just spoke with one of the pro dancers, and honestly, they’re really struggling. They were incredibly candid, admitting both they and their partner, Robert, are physically exhausted and feeling the strain of the competition. It’s clear they’re pushing their bodies to the absolute limit, and it’s starting to show.

Before his first dance—a quickstep to Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”—a rehearsal clip showed Irwin expressing concern that the choreography might be too difficult for his partner, Carson, and that they might need a backup plan.

“If I push any harder, my body is going to break,” he said.

Irwin experienced rib pain all night. After performing a lively cha-cha to DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean,” he admitted the competition had been physically demanding.

He said he’s caught a lot of crocodiles, but nothing has ever injured him the way dancing did. ‘Dancing is hard,’ he explained.
