DCU’s Green Lanterns series teaser debuts at HBO Max Upfront

DC Studios shared a first look at its new series, Lanterns, with a teaser trailer during an HBO Max event in São Paulo on November 25, 2025, according to Omelette.com.

A sneak peek of the upcoming film shows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) training together over several months. Hal is portrayed as someone filling in for another character, though who that is remains a mystery. The clip also features a quick shot of Hal flying and references Ch’p, a squirrel-like alien who is the fourth Green Lantern in the DC Universe, joining Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, and John Stewart. Ch’p is a popular character from the Green Lantern comics.

The preview introduces a story set in the American countryside, with a distinct Western feel and a color scheme dominated by browns – from the landscapes to the characters’ clothing. Stewart and Jordan are shown disagreeing, with Stewart asserting his superior life-saving abilities. Notably, neither character appears wearing the traditional Green Lantern uniform in the footage.

This eight-part series centers on Stewart and Jordan as they solve a murder in the Midwest, which may be connected to a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Their investigation ultimately leads to Stewart gaining his power ring and revealing a hidden, dangerous secret on Earth.

Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King collaborated on the story for the show. According to Mundy, a central theme explores the idea of succession—knowing when to relinquish control and allow someone new to lead (as reported by Men’s Health).

Garret Dillahunt and Kelly Macdonald are among the actors in the show. Nathan Fillion will be back as Guy Gardner, a character he previously played in Superman.

The series is expected to premiere in the second half of 2026 on HBO and HBO Max.
