Terminator star Linda Hamilton, 69, gets real about how much she fights aging after ‘damage’ from film stunts

She’s managed to remain an action film star well into her 60s.

Linda Hamilton has shared that, unlike many actresses her age, she isn’t as concerned with how she looks as she gets older.

In a recent interview with AARP Movies for Grownups, 69-year-old actress Linda Hamilton, best known for her role in the Terminator films, stated she makes no effort to appear younger. She emphasized she doesn’t even try, at any age.

After decades in the film industry, Hamilton approached aging with a calm acceptance. While performing her own stunts throughout her career took a physical toll, she remained remarkably at peace with the natural effects of time.

She admitted she’s fully accepted how she looks, saying it reflects her life experiences and reveals a lot about who she is.

Actress Sadie Sink, known for her role in the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, shared that she doesn’t try to follow fleeting beauty trends. Instead, she prefers to be present and enjoy each moment as it comes.

The film star explained that she’s still committed to staying healthy as she gets older.

She chuckled, adding, ‘It’s not always something serious—sometimes it’s just a simple pleasure, like a jelly donut.’ She believes in being flexible, and she feels that’s a wonderful approach to aging.

Hamilton believes that being inflexible – in thinking and in action – is ultimately destructive. He’s made a conscious effort throughout his life to remain adaptable and open to change.

She explained her approach to finding happiness using a metaphor: instead of struggling to reach a specific goal, she chooses to go with the flow, like swimming in the middle of a strong river current rather than fighting to reach the shore.

‘That, truly, is kind of what my life has been. It’s been a great, fun ride,’ Hamilton added.

The Terminator 2 actress also admitted that her physically demanding career has had a lasting impact on her body.

Linda Hamilton has done her own stunt work in several Terminator movies, resulting in numerous injuries over time.

To help manage the pain from her injuries, she works out three times a week, a routine that also benefited her performance on Stranger Things.

Hamilton typically combines Pilates, yoga, and weight training—using free weights, machines, and cables—into her workout routine.

She explained that she really likes focusing on whatever her body needs each day, instead of sticking to a strict workout plan like ‘chest and back day.’ It’s more about listening to what feels tight and needs stretching.

Hamilton also shared her excitement about her new role in the upcoming season of Stranger Things.

The actress was first announced for the role in June 2023, but it wasn’t until over a year later that photos of her on set appeared. Since then, details about her character have been kept secret.

‘I couldn’t wait to tell people. I just couldn’t wait,’ Hamilton said of the role.

In February 2024, she told Us Weekly she was a big fan of the show and had enjoyed watching every season. She said she ‘just loves’ it.

However, Hamilton has a consistent pattern of avoiding watching any movies or TV shows she’s in, which sometimes challenges her fans.

She explained that when you’re fully invested in a project, you become so immersed that you lose perspective. That’s why she doesn’t enjoy watching anything she’s been involved in – once she starts a new project, she stops watching her old work.

Seeing myself on screen would just be too surreal and disconnect me from the experience, so I’m not planning to watch the new season.

Sadie Sink, who plays Max on Stranger Things, said the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, filled her in on specifics about her character during a video call. However, they intentionally kept major plot points for the final season under wraps to prevent spoilers from getting out.

Hamilton explained that keeping the details secret requires considerable self-control. He added that this secrecy is necessary to shield the project from unwanted attention and inquiries.
