With the second season of Fallout heading to New Vegas this December, fans are also discovering another great show starring Ella Purnell. Purnell was fantastic as Lucy in Fallout – a hopeful character who, like Ted Lasso, finds herself facing a harsh reality in a post-apocalyptic America. While already known for roles in films like Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and the series Yellowjackets, Fallout significantly boosted her career. She shared the spotlight with Walton Goggins and Aaron Moten in the show, but for those wanting to see Purnell take the lead, her upcoming 2025 thriller, Sweetpea, is now available on streaming.
The seven-episode thriller Sweetpea is currently a hit on Starz, ranking as the 10th most popular series this week – behind the top show, Power Book IV: Force. Based on the crime novels by CJ Skuse, Sweetpea follows Rhiannon Lewis, played by Purnell, a woman who appears weak and friendless. After her father’s death, she faces losing her home, and finally reaches her limit. Driven by past trauma, including bullying by her sister’s friends, she embarks on a path of revenge, unexpectedly finding confidence in the process. Here’s what the show is about:
I honestly didn’t notice Rhiannon Lewis at first – she just blended into the background. But something happened, something that completely changed her, and now she’s living with a terrible secret… a secret about someone she killed. I’m really worried about whether she can keep it hidden.
The show Sweetpea, which premiered in October 2024, was well-received. Critics loved it, giving it an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences generally enjoyed it too, with a user score of 62%. One viewer enthusiastically wrote, “Sweetpea is insane. I watched it all in one day and have no regrets!” Beyond the exciting storyline, many viewers connected with the character of Rhiannon, with one commenting that even though the show is suspenseful and focuses on a potentially dangerous character, “you can’t help but realize that Rhiannon’s heart might be just as big as it is cold.”
‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 Is Coming

Starz/Sky
I was absolutely hooked by Sweetpea on Starz this year, and like so many other fans of CJ Skuse’s books, I was desperately hoping they’d adapt the rest of the series – that Season 1 ending left us all on the edge of our seats! Luckily, it looks like our wishes have come true.
Starz is officially working on Season 2 of Sweetpea, and filming actually started this summer! While there aren’t many details available yet, the new season is currently expected to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
