Sadie Sink admits final day filming Stranger Things was ‘horrible’ and it felt like the cast were ‘genuinely grieving’ as she poses for racy photoshoot

Sadie Sink described the final day of filming Stranger Things as deeply upsetting, saying it felt like the end of an era and a farewell to her childhood.

The 23-year-old actress became well-known for her role as Max Mayfield in the Netflix science fiction series.

As a huge fan, I’m currently watching the fifth and final season, and it’s so bittersweet! The very last episode is set to air on New Year’s Eve, which feels like the perfect, yet heartbreaking, way to say goodbye.

Sadie shared with Glamour magazine that she and the rest of the cast were truly sad when filming wrapped up.

Honestly, it was a really tough time, incredibly emotional. It truly felt like we were mourning a significant loss, and in a way, we were – it marked the end of a major phase in our lives. It was a deeply felt experience, and we needed to acknowledge that.

Honestly, nothing – nothing – compares to this. It’s not just a phase, it’s not like those friendships you build in school or even college. Those things are great, sure, but this… this is on a whole other level. It completely overshadows everything else. I can’t even explain it, it just is bigger than all of that.

‘We’re so connected on so many levels, and then also have this really singular experience. 

We’re still connected as people, but we need to accept that this chapter of our lives is ending. It feels like letting go of a cherished part of our past.

Sadie shared that being raised in the spotlight was difficult, and she often felt unable to express her struggles with the resulting pressures.

‘It’s something that I’ve been able to think a lot about now. There’s more perspective on it,’ she said.

Thinking about my teen years and growing up with the show, I realize I was incredibly sheltered. My family, the crew, and everyone involved really worked hard to protect me from a lot, and I’m so grateful for that now.

I also went through this alone. I was very careful about guarding my identity. It was difficult in all the expected ways, but looking back, the biggest challenge was feeling unable to share my struggles. Even when things got tough, or I felt overwhelmed, it was hard to talk about it because I was experiencing something incredible.

Yes, it definitely was, and looking back, I wouldn’t alter a thing. However, there were times when it felt hard to voice any issues or difficulties, which I think a lot of people experience, regardless of their profession.

I didn’t have a way to express those feelings before, but now I do. I’ve realized how important it is for me to talk about things like this, and I can see how those experiences have made me the person I am today.

It’s easy to get caught up when life gets busy and good things are happening. I certainly didn’t used to pause and check in with myself, or with others, to see how they were really doing.

I kept telling myself I was okay, that I was doing well, and I still feel that way. But being a teenage girl already comes with a lot of stress, and growing up with so much public attention definitely adds to that.

Sadie also spoke about being a redhead in the interview, saying she plans on never dying her hair.

People with red hair often have a complex relationship with it,” she explained. “One minute they love it, thinking it’s the best feature they have.

It’s funny, sometimes you really dislike being a redhead and wish you could change your hair color. But you’re constantly told, growing up with red hair, that you should never dye it – people are always saying how much they wish they had red hair naturally.

I’ve never changed my hair color, and I don’t plan to. I also don’t have any piercings or tattoos – I actually prefer keeping things natural and not making any permanent changes to my body.
