Former I’m A Celebrity star praises Alex Scott for managing to sneak salt into camp and reveals how contestants manage to get contraband past the SAS-style searches by ITV security

Former contestant Dean McCullough has commended Alex Scott, a star on this year’s ‘I’m A Celebrity,’ for successfully bringing prohibited items into the jungle camp.

The 41-year-old footballer received criticism from show officials on Monday’s episode after she was discovered using hidden salt packets to flavor her meals in camp.

The producers noticed something and decided to punish the camp. As a result, they took away one of Aitch’s earned stars – which represented food for dinner – and made Alex hand over a secret stash of seasoning.

Dean, 33, known for sneaking tea bags into camp last season, has commended the show’s commentator for successfully bringing salt into the jungle, despite the strict searches all celebrities undergo before entering.

Each year, the show prohibits celebrities from bringing personal items into camp. This includes things like their own clothing, makeup, favorite foods, seasonings, and even pillows.

Dean told The Mirror that ITV is extremely careful about keeping prohibited items out of the camp, explaining that they thoroughly search everywhere.

The Radio 1 DJ remembered being thoroughly searched by security, including a pat-down, before he was allowed in.

He praised Alex, saying it’s really hard to accomplish things there and that she deserves recognition for trying.

Dean understood why she’d secretly added seasoning and believed her campmates would appreciate the effort, even if it meant facing consequences, since the camp food was so bland.

He admitted Alex was smart to sneak the salt into camp, but she made a mistake by revealing it at the worst possible moment – when the show’s producers were watching most closely during the cooking process.

The show’s producers carefully monitor everything you cook and handle to ensure food safety. Because they’re watching so closely, displaying anything you’re not supposed to have – like hidden items – while you’re preparing food is a really bad idea.

Okay, so last year, Dean was being SO secretive! He was actually making tea for everyone in camp, which is amazing, but he pretended he hadn’t for ages! He’d only admit to bringing the teabags if we got him alone, away from the cameras, and even then it was all quiet and conspiratorial. It was the cutest, most Dean thing ever!

He admitted he’d barely succeeded in smuggling the items into the Jungle by hiding teabags down his trousers, after parachuting in from a helicopter.

He described how he had to sneak the items past security by hiding them in different places – first in his pants, then his socks, and finally inside his water bottle case.

Even with incredibly thorough security checks to find hidden items, Dean believes people will still break the rules. He explained that past contestants often share advice on how to get around the system.

Honestly, I just knew he was right. He basically admitted it – they can try to block us, but we’ll always find a way around it. We’re resourceful, you know? And the best part? He told me – well, not directly, but someone he trusts told me – exactly how it’s done. It’s amazing, really. I mean, I have the inside scoop now, thanks to him! It’s like we’re all in on this secret, and it’s incredible.

Okay, so here’s what happened – Ant and Dec caught me bending the rules a little on Sunday! I was having some fun in the kitchen with Jack Osbourne and we decided to get adventurous with dinner…we cooked up crocodile feet! It was definitely a memorable meal, and let’s just say the hosts noticed. Sometimes you just have to embrace the unexpected, right?

Quietly taking pinches of salt, she told him, “Jack, you handle the crocodile and everything around it – just give me the mushrooms, potatoes, and kale. I’ll season it and make it delicious. I think everyone’s going to love it.”

After reviewing the video, Ant jokingly wondered if someone had put something extra in the food, saying, ‘Did they add a little seasoning?’

Ant and Dec hinted that consequences were coming, with Dec saying, “I think it was against the rules. You’ll have to watch and see what happens.”

The campmates were shocked the next evening when they learned they’d lost a star – one of their team members – because someone had brought unauthorized items into camp during dinner.

The celebrities were promised they could turn in any prohibited items without facing additional penalties, and after doing so, they would finally be served dinner.

Alex admitted to bringing the salt, and Shona McGarty confessed to having a can of air freshener for the toilet.

Instead of getting upset, the other campers understood that the two had broken the rules to benefit everyone, and they readily forgave them.

Dean caused trouble at camp during the previous series when he was overheard discussing the hidden tea bags with Jane Moore.

He secretly grabbed a tea bag from his stash and put it in his morning hot water.

Oh my gosh, when they brought the ‘hot water’ – which, let’s be real, was totally suspicious looking – everyone was so confused! The mugs were, like, really dark, and poor Barry McGuigan was just baffled. He actually said, ‘Why are they dark?’ It was hilarious, but also… unsettling! I was on the edge of my seat, honestly. What was in that water?!

While Alan Halsall joked: ‘We got a bit of mud in the kettle but if you try it, it’s not too bad.’

Barry hesitantly tasted the questionable water, then winked at Alan and Dean with a playful grin as he declared, ‘Fantastic!’ They all shared a laugh.

Because of Dean’s sneaking around with forbidden items, the camp’s cupcake reward from Kiosk Kev was cut in half. Dean also had to surrender the items he’d been hiding to avoid getting into even more trouble.
