Many people love visiting theme parks at Halloween, with events like Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights and Disney’s Halloween parties. However, I think theme parks are even better at Christmas. The decorations are magical, and a recent video reveals the incredible effort that goes into building the main Christmas tree at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
Walt Disney World is constantly being maintained and updated, with much of the work happening while guests are asleep. A new time-lapse video on Instagram shows how quickly the Magic Kingdom Christmas tree goes up – construction starts around 11:30 PM and is completed with lights shining by 6 AM! It’s a truly impressive process – you should definitely take a look.

I visited Disneyland right before and after they put up the Christmas tree, and it was amazing! It’s incredible to think it wasn’t there one day, and then suddenly, this huge decoration – as tall or taller than the buildings on Main Street – appears overnight. It’s really a sight to see.
Walt Disney World’s Christmas decorations are much more extensive than just one tree. Each theme park and every Disney World resort hotel gets a complete holiday makeover. A dedicated design team handles all the decorating and then takes everything down after the season is over.
Disney World is offering two special Christmas parties this year for those eager to celebrate the holidays. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a long-standing tradition and really sparked my interest in Disney’s after-hours events. The other option, Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios, is newer, but it’s quickly become a guest favorite.
Many theme park Christmas trees are real, which is already quite a feat. But this particular tree, though artificial, is even more remarkable. The complexity of assembling and moving all its parts is incredible. Given that it takes almost the entire night to construct, there’s very little room for mistakes.
Disney parks are known for creating a magical experience, and part of that magic comes from keeping the behind-the-scenes workings hidden. But what I really love about theme parks is that even when you see how things are done, it actually makes the experience even more amazing.
I recently went to Disneyland for the holidays, and seeing the enormous Christmas tree as you emerge from the tunnel still feels special every time. It’s amazing to watch, and it’s truly magical to see how they build the whole thing overnight.
