I just finished watching this horror-comedy that came out earlier this year, and honestly, it’s wild! Everyone’s calling it both ridiculous and totally one-of-a-kind, and now it’s available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something different.
Okay, so I just heard about this new movie, Death of a Unicorn, and it sounds pretty interesting. It stars Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd, which is a huge plus! Basically, it’s about a dad, Elliot (played by Rudd), and his daughter, Ridley (Ortega), who aren’t super close. They end up taking a weekend trip together to this estate owned by Elliot’s boss, a guy named Odell Leopold (Richard E Grant), to try and reconnect. Will Poulter and Téa Leoni are in it too, so it’s got a solid cast!
During their travels, the group accidentally struck a young unicorn with their vehicle. They brought it back to the Leopold residence to decide how to help. While caring for the creature, they realized its blood possessed remarkable healing abilities.

Odell and his family intend to make money from the captured unicorn, but its parents appear, determined to get revenge.
Alex Scharfman directed the film, and it stars Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Stephen Park, and Jessica Hynes.

The film first premiered at the SXSW Festival this year, and then was released in theaters in the US in March and the UK in April.
Critics and audiences had a mixed reaction to the A24 film Death of a Unicorn, and its Rotten Tomatoes score of 53% reflects that.
Critics generally agree that while Death of a Unicorn offers some fun thanks to the chemistry between Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, its satire feels a little heavy-handed. Overall, it’s an entertaining and visually messy monster movie.
According to the Financial Times, Death of a Unicorn is an enjoyable, though sometimes predictable, read with dark themes. While occasionally leaning a bit too heavily into the mystical, the writing itself is skillfully done.

According to the Observer, this movie is a fun throwback to the low-budget monster movies of the 1950s. The somewhat cheesy special effects actually add to its charm when you see it that way.
Movie Mom praised the film’s boldness and creativity, and noted that the actors’ talent and dedication made it enjoyable to watch.
RogerEbert.com called the movie a throwback to classic 70s and 80s monster films, highlighting its intense violence, thoughtful social themes, and humorous characters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Rudd and Michaela Ortega bring a gentle warmth to the movie. The publication noted that their connection is what makes Death of a Unicorn stand out and offers a fresh take on a well-worn story.
