Simon Cowell is remarkably skilled at discovering young, talented individuals and turning them into successful pop groups, earning him a fortune in the process.
Creating the next big boy band in Britain has been challenging for the music executive, and a preview of his new Netflix show, The Next Act, revealed he needed to be put on an IV drip due to the stress.
Simon Cowell, 65, is searching for the next big musical act in a new six-part documentary series. The show will follow hopefuls from the very first auditions all the way to the release of the group’s first song.
The streaming service promises viewers a complete look at Simon Cowell’s latest project, offering access to every part of his journey.
Even though I enjoy my work on television, I really miss the early days of discovering and working with musicians,” Simon Cowell explains in the preview. “There’s a huge chance to create something new, and I’m going to find the next big boyband.
The famously critical TV personality admits his new venture has a very low chance of succeeding – less than 10 percent – and describes the process as chaotic.

He admits there’s a lot riding on this. He’s worried that if it doesn’t go well, people will think he’s lost his touch.
Simon Cowell’s fiancé, Lauren Silverman, seemed overwhelmed by the situation. During a heated moment, she asked for her microphone to be turned off and then left the room while Cowell sat looking unwell, receiving vitamins through an IV.
She says she doesn’t complain, explaining that she’s simply there for the people she loves – because that’s what loving someone means to her.
As she leaves, Cowell is heard saying: ‘Oh Lauren.’
Silverman, 48, appeared anxious about her health and shared her worries during a private moment while riding in a car.
She explained that Simon’s job wasn’t just a way to earn a living, it was his entire life. Then, reaching for his hand, she observed, ‘You seem really stressed.’
Oh my gosh, I’ve been following their story forever! It all started way back in 2004 when they first met in Barbados – can you imagine?! But it wasn’t until around 2012 that they finally got together. Then, the best news ever – little Eric arrived in 2014, and I nearly screamed! And after all this time, they got engaged in 2021! It’s like a dream come true, honestly.
Given everything they’ve been through together, Silverman is understandably worried. In 2020, Cowell suffered a broken back after a fall from an electric bike at his Malibu home, requiring six hours of surgery to stabilize his spine. Then, just two years later, he broke his arm in another E-bike accident while in London, leading to a hospital stay.

I’m a huge fan, and I was really worried when I heard he was missing from Britain’s Got Talent! Apparently, he battles migraines, and that’s what kept him away for a bit. They had Stacey Solomon fill in, which was great, but everyone was so relieved when he was well enough to come back to the judging panel. It’s amazing considering he’s worth around £475 million – he really is a powerhouse!
I’ve been a huge fan of Simon Cowell for years, and it’s amazing how consistently he finds incredible new performers! Since 2001, he’s been a judge on so many of my favorite shows – everything from Pop Idol and American Idol to Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, and The X Factor. He really has a knack for spotting talent!
For 14 years, The X Factor had a huge impact on British music, launching the careers of major artists like One Direction, Leona Lewis, Little Mix, JLS, and Olly Murs.
With fewer people watching and reports of past contestants being mistreated, ITV announced in 2021 that the show wouldn’t be returning for another season.
As someone who keeps a close eye on the entertainment industry, it’s clear Simon Cowell isn’t slowing down! He struck a major deal with Netflix last year, and he’s been vocal about how record labels just aren’t discovering and developing enough new talent. He feels artists are getting lost in the noise of the online world, and it’s something he’s clearly trying to address with his new ventures.
In an interview with the Daily Mail earlier this year, he explained that record labels aren’t currently discovering and signing enough new artists.
The number of UK artists achieving international success has dramatically decreased, likely because of increased competition online.
Let’s be real, opportunities rarely just fall into your lap. No one’s going to come to you with amazing things – you have to be proactive and go out there and make them happen. That’s exactly the approach I’m taking, and it’s so important for achieving your goals. It’s all about taking initiative!

Simon Cowell is hoping his new artists will achieve the same level of success as his previous ones, who have topped charts and sold millions of albums around the globe.
As a huge fan, I’ve been watching the new trailer, and let me tell you, Simon Cowell really had his work cut out for him! These contestants are a wild bunch – lots of playful fighting and arguing as they went through those tough boot camp auditions. It was a real battle to even get a chance to be in the band! And the best part? The final sixteen hopefuls are heading to Miami! I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Cowell compared the process to ‘mining for diamonds’.
Simon Cowell is also feeling the pressure to attract viewers, and he’s even put up a large billboard featuring his own face to generate buzz.
The X Factor was once incredibly popular, attracting up to 19.1 million viewers for its sixth season in 2010. However, viewership declined significantly, falling below seven million before the show ended. Similarly, Britain’s Got Talent has seen a decrease in viewers, with recent series struggling to maintain an audience.
Simon Cowell The Next Act is on Netflix on December 10.
