Returning “propulsive” thriller with Martin Compston confirms New Year’s release with new teaser

Season two of the thriller Red Eye, featuring Jing Lusi and Martin Compston, will arrive just in time for the holidays. Critics are calling it fast-paced and exciting, making it a great choice for festive viewing.

The first season of the ITV show centered around Detective Hana Li (Lusi) and her journey on a flight from London to Beijing. On board was Dr. Matthew Nolan (Richard Armitage), a fugitive awaiting trial for manslaughter.

Okay, so the flight had just started when things got crazy – people started getting killed! It felt like everyone was closing in on Matthew, and he kept swearing he hadn’t done anything wrong. The doctor on board was convinced it was all part of some bigger plot, and honestly, I started to believe him!

In the second season, Lusi returns as the detective, and the story unfolds within the US embassy. What begins as an emergency quickly turns into a complex murder mystery.

Martin Compston will make a guest appearance in the new season of Red Eye, which is coming back to ITV1 and ITVX on New Year’s Day. The announcement was accompanied by a first look at some images and a short teaser trailer.

The US Embassy’s celebration for the new Ambassador to London quickly turns into a crisis when a threatening phone call forces a lockdown. The caller claims a British plane will be destroyed if anyone attempts to leave the embassy.

A series of murders inside the embassy quickly escalates into a global crisis, leaving Hana caught in a complicated legal and political situation. Despite a strained working relationship, she receives assistance from Clay Brody, the Head of Embassy Security.

Okay, so things are getting really intense. I’m playing as Hana, and I need to get over my issues with this guy and really focus on the case. It’s not just some random mission anymore – it’s personal now. Apparently, a government plane is the target, and the Director General, Madeline Delaney, is actually on that plane. That seriously raises the stakes!

A dangerous killer is operating inside the Embassy, always staying one step ahead of Hana and Brody. They need to uncover who’s responsible for this scheme quickly, before the hostages inside the Embassy and those on Delaney’s plane are harmed.

I’m really excited to hear that Jemma Moore is coming back as Jess Li! She was awesome in the first season. Plus, Kieron Hawkes is directing the first three episodes, which is great – he did a fantastic job before. Camilla Strøm Henriksen is taking over directing duties for the last three, so it sounds like we’re in good hands all around.

Red Eye season 2 premieres on ITV1 and ITVX on 1 January 2026.
