Kim Kardashian immerses herself in water for sizzling ocean shoot in historic vintage gown – as sister Khloe brands her a ‘FREAK’ for racy snaps

Kim Kardashian is often in the news for her fashion, and she’s known for incorporating vintage pieces and designs from historical collections into her outfits.

The 45-year-old reality star made a splash on Monday, posting photos of herself swimming in the ocean while wearing a stunning vintage Alexander McQueen gown from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2003 collection.

She looked stunning in the water while shooting photos, which she posted with a picture of the dress displayed next to Kim Kardashian’s iconic McQueen Oyster Gown from the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscars party.

Kim was focused on the photoshoot, understanding the importance of the famous dress she was wearing. However, her sister Khloe, 41, playfully teased her, jokingly calling her ‘a freak’ for being so dedicated to getting the pictures.

She commented, expressing concern about him being in the water at night. She said it looked very dark in the pictures and asked if he was okay.

Kim looked stunning in the dress, posing both gracefully floating in the water and powerfully as she emerged from the sea, meeting the camera’s gaze.

The dress was definitely eye-catching, but her decision to wear it is likely to cause discussion because of its special cultural importance as part of the Irere collection.

As a longtime fan, I remember being absolutely captivated by the image of Kim wearing that incredible dress! It was part of the stunning display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibition back in 2011, shown right next to the original Oyster dress that inspired it. It was a truly unforgettable moment seeing them together.

The exhibition revolved around the theme of water. In 2003, the Victoria and Albert Museum described the show’s opening as featuring an underwater film by John Maybury, depicting a girl in a ripped chiffon dress seemingly drowning in the sea.

This wasn’t a sad story about a lost and helpless girl. Instead, ‘Irere,’ which means ‘transformation’ in an Amazonian language, showed the girl’s journey from a shipwreck survivor to an Amazonian princess – a story about overcoming hardship and finding strength.

Kim Kardashian turned heads at the 2020 Oscars wearing a rare dress – one of just two ever created. She later shared that her then-husband, Kanye West, had purchased it for her.

One of the two dresses created is now displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the museum’s curator, Andrew Bolton, has called it “possibly the most significant dress of the 21st century.”

According to Harper’s Bazaar, West found the dress at Lily Et Cie, a vintage store in Beverly Hills. This is the same store where Jennifer Aniston recently purchased the vintage John Galliano for Dior gown she wore to the SAG Awards.

Over the years, Lily Et Cie designs have been worn by numerous celebrities, including Demi Moore, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Jennifer Lopez, at high-profile events like the Academy Awards and the Met Gala.

In 2022, Kim Kardashian faced criticism for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s famous ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’ gown to the Met Gala, with reports suggesting she damaged it in the process.

She revealed she forced herself to lose 16lbs in just three weeks in order to make it fit.

Marilyn Monroe’s famous, sparkling beaded dress was created by designer Jean Louis. It’s currently exhibited at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Orlando, Florida, after being purchased at Julien’s Auction for $4.81 million.

The story goes that Marilyn Monroe’s dress was so form-fitting, it had to be sewn onto her body before she sang for the President.

Kim was upset when she tried on the dress and it didn’t fit. She started to cry when she found out it couldn’t be changed to fit her properly.

She explained to Vogue that she followed a very strict diet with a tight deadline so she could fit into the dress for the Met Gala.

She described a very intense routine where she wore a sauna suit twice daily, ran on the treadmill, and eliminated all sugar and carbohydrates from her diet. She focused on eating only very healthy vegetables and protein, and while she didn’t drastically restrict calories, she was extremely disciplined with her food choices.

For decades, people have wondered about Marilyn Monroe’s exact measurements and famous curves. One dressmaker estimated she was 5’5″ tall, with a 35-inch bust, 22-inch waist, and 35-inch hips, and reportedly wore a 36D bra.

Kim Kardashian has publicly shared her body measurements, stating she wears a size 27 jeans and has a 38-26-39 figure. She also noted her height is 5’2.5″ and that everyone’s body distributes weight differently.
