ABC leaders were surprised and caught off guard by Chris Bath’s unexpected resignation from her popular Drive program, especially since she had only been hosting it for less than a year. They weren’t expecting her to leave the highly sought-after position so soon.
I was completely shocked to hear on Monday that our beloved broadcaster, who’s been a constant in my life for years, won’t be with us on the weekday program after 2025. She shared the news live, and it was clear she hadn’t made the decision lightly – she said she’d been thinking about it for weeks, and it was truly bittersweet to hear.
Okay, so, she said she’s leaving Drive. I’m still reeling, honestly! Apparently, Thomas Oriti – a journalist, I guess – is going to take her place. It just…doesn’t feel right. I can’t even imagine Drive without her! It’s like she just dropped a bomb, and I’m still picking up the pieces. I’m devastated, truly. I just don’t understand!
Radio executives were reportedly shocked by Bath’s decision to leave, as he only told the station about it recently.
The journalist replaced previous ABC Drive host Richard Glover in January.
On Monday, Bath announced she won’t be leaving ABC entirely. She shared that she’ll be hosting a new program on Sunday mornings next year.

As many of us have experienced, life rarely goes exactly as planned, and you can’t always predict what will happen, she shared with listeners.
I’ve made a hard decision: I’m leaving Drive next year. It wasn’t easy, but I’ve decided to just go with what feels right.
This news follows reports that Bath recently resigned from her position as a newsreader at Channel Ten after a decade with the station. She has been succeeded by a much younger colleague – over 20 years her junior.
Sources say Ten didn’t renew the newsreader’s contract due to budget cuts, as they can no longer afford to employ her for weekend shifts.
After seven years hosting 10 News on weekends, Bath is stepping down. Georgie Tunny, who joined the network in 2022 as a presenter for The Project, will take over, according to news.com.au.
After leaving Seven, she started working at Ten in 2015, first as a regular panelist on shows like Studio 10 and The Project.
She started regularly co-hosting The Sunday Project in 2017, but Lisa Wilkinson took over the role in 2018.
In June, the show was cancelled because it was too expensive to produce. This resulted in the departure of hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, Steve Price, and Hamish Macdonald from Network Ten.

Bath went on to replace Natarsha Belling as a presenter on 10 News Weekend in December 2018.
Recently, she’s been presenting several news programs, including a 90-minute national bulletin on Saturday evenings, a dedicated Perth news show, and a one-hour Sunday evening bulletin for both national and Perth viewers.
Before joining Ten, Bath worked at Seven for many years, starting her career there in 1996.
She spent several years working for Seven News in Sydney, appearing as a weekend presenter, and also hosted the current affairs show, Sunday Night.
She left Seven on July 27, 2015, and began a ten-year career at Ten shortly after.
