Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has unexpectedly volunteered to be in a sequel to the hit 2006 movie, The Devil Wears Prada. The new film will reportedly offer a behind-the-scenes look at the competitive world of fashion journalism.
During an appearance on Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast with his The Smashing Machine co-star Emily Blunt, Dwayne Johnson jokingly volunteered to play a character who was fashionable and cool – basically describing everyone already in the movie. Emily Blunt, who also worked with Johnson on 2021’s The Jungle Cruise, quickly quipped that the role would naturally require someone skilled at walking in heels.
He joked about “size 15 heels,” and she playfully responded that he’d look good in them. While Dwayne Johnson won’t be in The Devil Wears Prada 2, the film will feature Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci, all returning from the original. New additions to the cast include Simone Ashley from Bridgerton, Kenneth Branagh, and Lady Gaga, whom Blunt teased was originally the role Johnson wanted.
Emily Blunt, who famously played Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada, remained tight-lipped about the upcoming sequel. She did share her enthusiasm for the script, but playfully refused to reveal any details. “I can’t say anything about the movie,” Blunt told an interviewer, jokingly adding, “I would literally be killed if I did!”
Johnson mentioned the huge buzz around the upcoming sequel, pointing out that fans were flocking to the New York City set to watch filming. He described the level of excitement as comparable to seeing a pop star, and shared that Emily had been sending him videos of the scene. She was waiting near the set, eager to catch a glimpse of the action and excitedly showed him what was happening.
The initial trailer for the film was released in November, but didn’t include Emily Blunt’s character. Instead, it highlighted the tense relationship between Miranda and her previous assistant, Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), which was central to The Devil Wears Prada. While no specific plot details were revealed, the trailer showed Miranda moving through the offices of Runway—the film’s version of Vogue—with quick cuts of models getting ready. It ends with a shot of Miranda and Andy in an elevator, echoing a memorable scene from the original movie.
A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is scheduled to come out on May 1, 2026, almost 20 years after the first movie was released.
