Sherrie Hewson reveals she was once kicked under the table by Loose Women co-star Coleen Nolan after making an ‘outrageous’ comment on the ITV show

Sherrie Hewson shared that her Loose Women colleague, Coleen Nolan, once kicked her under the table while they were live on television, after Sherrie made a shocking remark.

The 75-year-old actress, known for being on the ITV show from 2003 to 2017, shared that she used to be able to say whatever she thought without issue. However, she’s recently found that being honest can still cause problems with her former colleagues.

In a recent interview with The Sun, she shared a funny story about an appearance on Loose Women. She admitted to saying something a bit shocking – though she couldn’t recall exactly what it was – and Coleen Nolan responded by playfully kicking her under the table.

During a live broadcast, I jokingly said, “Please don’t kick me!” and she playfully responded, “But I enjoy kicking you!” That playful back-and-forth is exactly the kind of fun, lighthearted interaction we want – a comfortable environment where we can tease each other without getting upset.

She reminisced about the beginning of her time on Loose Women, noting that she didn’t recall anyone taking offense at anything said or done by their fellow panelists.

She acknowledged that they often argued. She described having particularly heated disagreements with Janet Street Porter, admitting she would sometimes tell her to be quiet because she disagreed with what was being said.

She also mentioned they always laughed about the situation later, emphasizing that they both thought it was really funny.

She noted that her co-star was ‘talking rubbish’ – before admitting, ‘maybe I was too.’

She added that it’s important for people to respect each other’s differences, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should be able to share it freely.

This follows Sherrie’s criticism of ITV executives for cancelling several weeks of the well-liked daytime program, which she described as a ‘cruel’ move.

Starting in January, the show will only be on air for 30 weeks each year. This change is due to significant budget cuts and means it won’t run year-round anymore.

Sherrie, currently an actress on Hollyoaks, expressed concern that cancelling the show would take away a vital source of companionship and support for many elderly and vulnerable viewers.

The actress, a volunteer at local care homes, has personally witnessed how much joy the show brings to people living with dementia.

She shared that watching Loose Women can feel like joining a friendly chat, and for certain people, it even offers a sense of purpose or something to look forward to each day.

She explained to The Sun on Sunday that many women, from those in their nineties to young mothers at home, find the activity incredibly therapeutic.

Honestly, it absolutely breaks my heart they’re cutting back episodes of Loose Women! It’s not just a show, you know? It’s where real feelings come out, where things get discussed, and sometimes, yeah, it gets heated – but that’s what makes it good! It feels so wrong to take that away.

Sherrie also criticized ITV for cutting back on programs for older viewers. She noted that people over 55 actually watch more TV than any other age group, yet broadcasters often overlook them.

She explained that watching sports is a vital outlet for many people, giving them something to passionately react to, especially those who are lonely. For some, it’s their only chance to connect with others and participate in a conversation throughout the day.

Even though Sherrie left the show in 2016 after being on it for four years, she still strongly believes in its value.

She explained that programs like Loose Women are important for helping older people feel connected and engaged.

The Daily Mail has contacted ITV for comment.

Earlier this year, the show’s run was shortened from 52 weeks to 30 weeks as a way to reduce expenses.

With more people switching to streaming, ITV has had to make tough choices to stay in the black and continue producing popular shows.

Budget cuts at the broadcaster have also impacted shows like Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.

Good Morning Britain is extending its runtime by thirty minutes, which means Lorraine will now have a shorter show, lasting only half an hour.

Similar to Loose Women, Lorraine will now only be broadcast for 30 weeks of the year. When it’s off the air, Good Morning Britain will be extended to fill the time, running from 6am to 10am.

Kevin Lygo, who heads up ITV’s media and entertainment programming, emphasized how crucial daytime television is to the channel.

Okay, so the big boss just explained everything, and honestly, it’s amazing. They’re tweaking things behind the scenes – scheduling, production, the whole shebang – but it’s all so we keep getting our favorite news, debates, and discussions, led by the presenters we adore! And get this – it’s not just about keeping things the same, they’re actually freeing up money to put into more shows we’ll love! Seriously, it’s a win-win. I’m so relieved and excited for what’s coming!

These changes will help us combine our news teams and increase the amount of national, international, and local news we produce. This is especially important now, as viewers rely on us for trustworthy and impartial reporting more than ever before, and we’re proud to continue that tradition.

Recent budget cuts mean the Loose Women panel will be working in a much smaller studio, jokingly referred to as a ‘broom cupboard’.

Sources say that starting in January, ITV’s budget reductions will likely mean Loose Women will stop having celebrity guests in the studio. The show is planning to focus solely on the panel discussing current events.

There is also thought to be a move to London’s Celebro from White City.

According to an ITV insider who spoke with Daily Mail, Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women will all move to a new studio in central London when the daytime TV schedule is updated in 2026.

We haven’t finalized the plans for the new studio yet, but as soon as we do, we’ll let our team know right away.

TV executives are reportedly eager to support new host Olivia Attwood, who reaches a large audience of 250 million viewers through her online streams.

However, the show’s rotating panel of judges is likely to stay the same, as ITV has stated they don’t plan to add any new members.
