I have to say, one of the coolest perks of my job is getting to bring my kids to see movies before they come out! When I got an invitation to a screening of Wicked: For Good – the new movie based on the musical, which isn’t coming out until 2025 – I immediately knew I had to take my oldest daughter. She’s been obsessed with the original Wicked for the past year, watching it over and over, and I just knew she’d absolutely love this too.
About two hours into the musical with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, I noticed my daughter seemed to lose interest. She appeared bored or tired, and after a few minutes, she asked the dreaded question every parent hates: “When will it be over?”

Like The First Movie, My Daughter Loved Wicked: For Good
My daughter absolutely loved Wicked: For Good! She was completely engaged throughout most of the movie, really connecting with the characters and enjoying all the fantastic musical numbers. I was a little hesitant to watch it after reading a review that suggested it might be too intense, but it turned out to be perfectly appropriate for my nine-year-old.
I’ve been taking my kids to the movies for years, so I can usually tell when they’re really enjoying something. This time was great – no requests to use the restroom, and my daughter didn’t even get sleepy! She was completely engaged until the last fifteen minutes or so. That’s when I could see she was starting to lose interest, and I knew it was almost time to leave.

She Was Just Exhausted By The ‘Return Of The King’ Style Endings
Driving home, I asked my daughter why she seemed disappointed with the movie, especially since she’d been so engaged with the story. She said her biggest issue was the ending – it just felt too long and drawn out. I won’t spoil anything, but the final 15 minutes or so had a lot of different conclusions, a bit like the extended ending of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. While everything that happened was important to the story, I can understand why she was tired, especially since it was late on a school night.
During our conversation, I recalled a moment in the movie – probably after the song “For Good” – when the audience spontaneously began to applaud. My daughter, thinking it was over, started to sit up before realizing the movie continued. She told me she really enjoyed it, but confessed she was pretty tired by the end.
If you’re thinking of taking your kids to see Wicked: For Good – and it’s definitely worth it! – be aware that they might get a little tired towards the end. The show is still shorter than the first Wicked movie (and much shorter than the Lord of the Rings films!), but a Saturday or Sunday afternoon showing might be better than a late-night one.
