Paris Hilton is often considered the first celebrity to gain fame simply by being herself. She seemed to live a perfect life that many people envied.
I remember when she first burst onto the scene in the 2000s – she was everywhere! She quickly became known as a total party icon, always looking incredible in the latest designer clothes and the highest heels. It was a really defining look for that era.
You know, looking back at Paris Hilton’s early image – the cute dresses, hair, and bubbly personality – it was easy to assume everything was perfect. But what a lot of people didn’t realize is she was actually carrying a lot of painful memories from her past, and she kept those hidden for almost twenty years. It really shows you how much people can hide behind a carefully crafted image.
In 2019, she told Grazia magazine that she’d developed a persona—a seemingly perfect ‘Barbie doll’ type—as a way to present herself.
‘But I think it all really stems back to just everything that I went through as a teen.’
The Daily Mail explores the difficult experiences of Paris’s early life, including manipulation by a teacher and the unauthorized release of a personal video by a former partner.

When Paris was 14 years old, a teacher she knew inappropriately kissed her and made suggestive comments about her appearance.
In her memoir, the socialite described how she and her friends became interested in a good-looking young teacher who resembled an Abercrombie & Fitch model when they were in middle school.
She said that when she was a teenager, a teacher confessed he had a crush on her, then asked for her phone number and told her to keep it a secret.
She described receiving nightly calls from Mr. Abercrombie, during which he would lavish her with compliments, telling her she was mature, beautiful, intelligent, sensual, misunderstood, and special.
‘He reminded me that Princess Diana was thirteen years younger than Prince Charles.
‘And Priscilla Presley was my age when Elvis fell in love with her.’

The teacher tricked her into getting into his car near her house, and Paris said he then held her and kissed her.
But her parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton, found out she was kissing him, so she was sent to stay with her grandmother in Palm Springs for the summer.
She added that ‘Mr Abercrombie’ blamed her, asking: ‘Why did you make me do this?’
Paris said it took ‘decades’ for her to realise she was a victim of child abuse.
She wrote: ‘It took decades for me to actually speak the word pedophile.
Taking on the role of the abuser would have forced me to portray the victim, and I wasn’t able to emotionally handle that.
Raped by an older man at 15

Paris lived with her grandmother in Palm Springs and frequently went to the Westfield Century City mall in Los Angeles with her friends.
She explained that older men frequently loitered near the shops and chatted with her and her friends. One day, these men invited Paris and her friends to come back to their home.
Paris stated she was offered berry wine coolers, and one of the men repeatedly pressured her to drink one.
In a 2023 interview with Glamour Magazine, she described feeling dizzy and unwell after having just a couple of sips of a drink. She suspects someone may have slipped a drug—likely Rohypnol—into her beverage, though she isn’t certain.
Paris said she woke up several hours later knowing something bad had happened.
She recalled a disturbing memory of him being on top of her, covering her mouth and repeatedly whispering, ‘You’re dreaming,’ into her ear.
Paris added that the experience made her feel ashamed.
The reality star stated she was sexually assaulted after school staff performed unwanted cervical exams on her in the early morning hours.
Abuse at tough love camps
When Paris was sixteen, her parents enrolled her in a CEDU program. CEDU ran boarding schools that were presented as places for troubled teens to grow emotionally, but were actually designed for behavioral control.
She first publicly described her difficult experiences working with young people in group homes in an interview with People magazine in August 2020.
During the interview, she described her 11 months at Provo Canyon School in Springville, Utah, detailing daily psychological abuse. She said staff subjected her to constant bullying and solitary confinement, and actively prevented her from telling her family about the abuse.
Paris said he expected Provo Canyon to be the worst place he’d been, and he’d already experienced several other facilities before being transferred there.
All day long, from morning until night, I was constantly being shouted at and intimidated. It was a relentless experience designed to frighten us children into obedience.

Prison staff often used solitary confinement as punishment, sometimes for up to 20 hours a day. This caused me to have daily panic attacks and made me cry constantly.
Paris tried to escape three times, but each attempt failed and resulted in her being transferred to a more secure facility.
She described to The Times the trauma of losing everything as a child – being completely isolated, unable to see the outside world or even speak, and feeling like a prisoner.
Your family believes you’re attending a positive boarding school focused on personal development – they think you’re happily learning to ride horses. But it’s all a facade; the materials they’ve been shown are completely misleading and the whole thing is a deception.
Last year, Paris shared her difficult experiences at Provo Canyon School with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, urging them to make significant changes to the foster care and youth rehabilitation systems.
In June, Paris testified before the House Ways and Means Committee, sharing that at age 16, she was unexpectedly taken from her home in the middle of the night and sent to a residential facility – the first of four she would live in.
She described being forcibly medicated and sexually abused by staff over two years. She also said she was violently restrained, stripped, and repeatedly placed in solitary confinement.
Leaked sex tape

When Paris was 19, her sex tape was leaked in the early 2000s, made with her ex, Rick Salomon.
She admitted that she drank alcohol and took Quaaludes prior to the making of the tape.
But she was horror-struck when a 37-second clip of the video began circulating online years later.
Paris pleaded with Rick not to share the entire recording, but Rick insisted he was entitled to sell something he owned.
The celebrity became visibly upset in June while discussing the difficult consequences of her leaked sex tape. She shared that the hurtful betrayal by her boyfriend at the time would likely impact her for the rest of her life.
In an interview with Louis Theroux, the former reality star openly shared the immense sadness and pain she experienced.
“That was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through,” Paris shared at the event.

Being betrayed by someone I trusted, having private moments exposed publicly, and then being judged harshly for a single night with them is something I’ll never get over. It’s a deeply painful experience that will stay with me forever.
The actress described the attention surrounding the tape as deeply upsetting, particularly because it happened just as her show, The Simple Life, was about to premiere.
She explained that at the time, she felt everyone – the media and the public – were incredibly harsh and unkind, which was deeply upsetting and painful for her.
In her 2023 memoir, Paris revealed she felt uneasy about filming intimate moments with Rick, but said he pushed her to do it anyway.
I discovered my partner had a history of sharing intimate details with other women, and honestly, it really bothered me. Every time he suggested it, I’d shut it down immediately. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it – it felt incredibly awkward and humiliating for me.
He said there were plenty of others who would do it if I didn’t, and that really upset me. The thought of him rejecting me simply because I was young and didn’t understand his world felt awful.
Honestly, I just wanted to fully experience being alive and feel confident and comfortable as a woman.
She stated he promised no one would ever view the video, and strongly assured her she would absolutely not participate in making an amateur teen pornographic film.
She said that if she had made the decision herself, she would have taken full responsibility. She would have confidently owned it, like saying, “Yes, I chose to do that.”
I would have fully supported it, maximized its potential, profited from every possible angle, and then confidently cashed in without feeling any need to explain myself.
‘Recruited’ by Ghislaine Maxwell

Apparently, Maxwell noticed Paris at a party when she was only 19 years old and reportedly told others he believed Epstein was interested in her.
Ghislaine Maxwell had a long-term relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, during the 1990s. She reportedly attended parties seeking young women for him to date.
Maxwell was found guilty and imprisoned for her involvement in Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes, where she acted as his primary recruiter and accomplice.
Despite claims about Maxwell’s interest in her, Paris has stated she has no recollection of ever meeting him.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Paris suggested she might have become a focus of media attention simply because of her recognizable name, joking that she’s ‘a really good clickbait name.’
President Trump unexpectedly urged House Republicans to make the ‘Epstein Files’ public. This is a change from what he said before.
The collection of documents includes evidence gathered by the Justice Department during its investigation of the convicted sex offender. This includes interview transcripts with victims and items seized from searches of his properties.
Documents released from the estate of the convicted financier show he frequently talked about Donald Trump in private letters and emails between 2011 and 2019. The released files contain over 20,000 pages of information.
In 2020, a former friend of the British socialite revealed details about Maxwell’s alleged plans involving Hilton.
According to Christopher Mason, Maxwell was stunned when she spotted a young member of the Hilton family at a party, exclaiming ‘Oh my god!’
Maxwell said she would be ‘perfect for Jeffrey’ and told a friend: ‘Can you introduce us?’
I’ve been following Robert Maxwell for ages – seriously, since the eighties! – and apparently, Mason, a journalist who’s known him just as long as I’ve been reading about him, met with him sometime recently. The frustrating thing is, Mason won’t say when this meeting happened! It’s like he’s keeping a crucial piece of the puzzle from us fans!
Hilton’s rise to fame really started around the year 2000 when she joined Donald Trump’s modeling agency, T Management.
At that point, she would have been 19 years old and on the cusp of becoming a star.
