Review

‘Jamesy Boy,’ an inside-the-pen drama, a bit too predictable

The movie ‘Jamesy Boy’ features strong performances from actors like Ving Rhames, Mary-Louise Parker, and James Woods, with Spencer Lofranco delivering a particularly good performance in the lead role. However, the story of a young man trying to turn his life around isn’t very original.

Actor Spencer Lofranco has appeared in several films, including the John Gotti biopic “Gotti” with John Travolta, and Angelina Jolie’s acclaimed war drama “Unbroken.” He’s also been in “At Middleton,” “Jamesy Boy,” “Dixieland,” and “King Cobra,” as well as the short film “Home,” according to his IMDb page.

In a review for The Times, Martin Tsai praised newcomer Michael Lofranco’s performance in “Jamesy Boy,” stating he “carries the film.” Lofranco, who plays James Burns, an ex-convict turned filmmaker, successfully acted alongside experienced stars Ving Rhames, Mary-Louise Parker, and James Woods, according to Tsai.

Born on October 18, 1992, Lofranco discovered his passion for acting at age 17, even though his father hoped he would pursue hockey or a legal career. He credits his mother – a dancer, musician, and actor – with introducing him to the world of performing, as she often brought him to auditions with her.

While briefly pursuing an acting career, actor Lofranco was involved in a 2013 hit-and-run accident in Hollywood. He struck a cyclist with his SUV, causing serious injuries like a broken hip and multiple fractures, as reported by CBS News. After the accident, Lofranco reportedly exited his vehicle to apologize to the cyclist before leaving the scene.

Diane Ladd, the actress known for her role in ‘Rambling Rose,’ has passed away, and the cause of death has now been made public. This news comes several weeks after her daughter, Laura Dern, shared the news of her passing.

Following a request from the victim for a stricter punishment, the judge sentenced Lofranco in 2015 to 50 days of community service, two years of probation, and ordered him to pay $161,000 in restitution.

For the past year, Lofranco was active on Instagram, showcasing his style, tattoos, and graffiti. His last post was a black-and-white self-portrait, and the caption suggested he was beginning a fresh start.

He told fans, after asking them to subscribe to his OnlyFans, that ‘the best is yet to come.’ He then explained that a shipment of hair extensions was delayed in customs, calling the situation ‘crazy’.

Over ten years ago, Lofranco told Interview magazine he wanted to make films that were authentic and showed life as it really is.

He explained he’s careful about the roles he takes, wanting to avoid anything that could harm his career. He looks to actors like Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the late River Phoenix as examples of those who make smart choices.
