Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther, shared a heartfelt message honoring Chadwick Boseman as the actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This tribute comes five years after Boseman tragically passed away from colon cancer at the age of 43.
It was so moving to see Ryan Coogler honored with Chadwick Boseman’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday! So many people came out to support him, including Viola Davis, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, even Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, and Chadwick’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman. It was a really special moment.
During the event, Coogler gave a heartfelt speech about how Chadwick Boseman influenced his latest movie, Sinners. The critically praised horror film, released this year, features Jordan in the roles of both twin brothers and currently holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Taking to the podium, Coogler became teary-eyed while speaking about Boseman’s influence.
He shared that he gave Michael Jordan what he considered the most crucial piece of direction he’d ever given an actor. He explained that the way the twins spoke in the film presented a real challenge.

Coogler recalled asking himself, ‘What would Chadwick do?’ when facing a challenge. He explained that Boseman would remain in character, maintaining his accent, throughout the entire day on set. According to Coogler, his colleague, Mike, understood immediately.
We will always remember Chad. He was a brilliant talent who deserved to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but more importantly, he was a truly special person. He inspired others and showed the best of what humanity has to offer. We are grateful for everything he brought to the world. Thank you, Chad.

Davis fondly remembered Chadwick Boseman, as they had collaborated on his last film, 2020’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
She confessed she couldn’t accept Chadwick’s passing. She avoided using words like ‘gone’ or ‘death,’ explaining that as long as someone remembers him, a part of him lives on, echoing the sentiment that a person is truly gone only when everyone who remembers them has died.
She expressed her gratitude for the lasting impact he had on her, describing it as a guiding inspiration that deepens her work and sense of purpose. She then beautifully stated that while his star on the Walk of Fame is lovely, his spirit shines far more brilliantly in heaven.
