Brendan Fraser finally breaks silence on confirmed The Mummy sequel: “I’ve been waiting 20 years”

Everyone was excited to hear Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were working together again on a new Mummy movie. Now that the initial buzz has calmed down, Fraser has shared what made him want to return to the franchise.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the actors will return as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan in the fourth movie of the series.

The actors first starred in the original The Mummy movie in 1999 and then reprised their roles in The Mummy Returns in 2001. A third film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, came out in 2008, but Rachel Weisz wasn’t in it.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the actor said he was thrilled to be back working on the action-adventure series. He explained that a particular story idea he’d hoped to explore never came to fruition, but he felt good about the third film as a complete story in itself.

The project I’ve been dreaming of is finally happening. I’ve waited two decades for this opportunity – it felt like a distant hope for years, but now it’s real. It’s time to deliver what the fans have been asking for.

Brendan Fraser, who won an Oscar for his role in The Whale last year, hinted in an interview with IndieWire that rumors about the highly anticipated film are likely true. He playfully said he’d confirm everything, but he’s keeping details under wraps.

Despite the challenges, I’m optimistic. Many fans have expressed interest in a revival, and the original audience is now sharing their childhood favorites with a new generation of kids. They’re passing on the shows and movies they loved to their own children.

We don’t know much about the movie’s story yet, but it might change some established facts. This is likely because Maria Bello played Evelyn in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and her return could require explaining or altering previous events.

The upcoming film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who work together as Radio Silence. They’re known for directing popular movies like Ready or Not, Scream 6, and Abigail.

The Mummy 4 has no release date.
