Ruby Wax recently shared a bizarre story from a 1998 BBC interview where OJ Simpson jokingly acted out killing her, a moment she remembered while appearing on ‘I’m A Celebrity.’
Ruby brought up one of her more famous interviews and wondered if anyone had seen the strange conversation she had with a murder suspect.
Ruby Wax, now 72, became well-known in the 1990s with her interview show, “Ruby Wax Meets…”, where she talked to celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Madonna, and Donald Trump.
Ruby first encountered OJ Simpson in 1998, four years after he was found not guilty in the highly publicized case involving the deaths of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
The television personality described the strange incident where OJ Simpson jokingly pretended to stab the interviewer with a banana following their conversation.
Former NFL player O.J. Simpson, who was found responsible in civil court for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman, has been described as a remarkably complex person.

Wax said that after filming wrapped, Simpson told him he had a surprise, which genuinely caught him off guard. He believes it was meant as a joke.
In a video, Simpson playfully pretends to stab Wax with a banana, making a loud screeching sound and smiling at the camera.
Simpson was surprised and upset by a joke he made when she opened her hotel room door. He later said he was actually searching for a knife at the time.
The disturbing video reappeared online Thursday, the same day news broke that the former football player, accused of murder, had passed away after a brief fight with prostate cancer.
Wax recalled their 1998 interview decades later, calling it a bizarre and unsettling experience. He explained that the odd joke about being stabbed happened after the interview itself. He then filmed a short segment where he said he felt manipulated and unsure about who he’d be with, and when he opened the door, it was the person he was referring to.
He went outside and saw all the serving trays. He was pretending to look for a knife, hoping to trick me when I opened the door, but there wasn’t one. So, he picked up a banana instead.
Wax spoke with Simpson shortly after he was found not guilty in 1994 of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
The 70-year-old TV personality claims that Simpson called her on April 1st and jokingly said, ‘I killed her, April Fools!’

She remembered when they first met, and said he’d told her his favorite poem was about Lizzie Borden, the woman who was famously tried – but found not guilty – for murdering her father and stepmother back in 1892.
The first time we went out, we were with his sister, and a lot of women approached us, asking if we’d be interested in meeting up later. They kept coming back every night, seemingly attracted to someone with a troubled past.
Wax believed she could convince Simpson to confess to the 1995 stabbings, and even hinted he might secretly want her to arrest him for it.
It was so strange! He just blurted out, “Hey, wanna know my favorite poem?” and then launched right into the Lizzie Borden rhyme – you know, “Lizzie Borden took an axe… forty whacks!” Honestly, it felt like he wanted me to react, like he was testing me or something. It was totally out of the blue and a bit unsettling, but I couldn’t help but be fascinated by how deliberately he said it.
Oh my gosh, I really thought I had him! I was convinced I could expose him on air – I pictured him just admitting everything, saying ‘Yes, I did it!’ And then, boom, he’d be going to jail! I was practically acting as his lawyer, trying to trap him, it was so intense!
The man accused of a famous double murder died at his Las Vegas home on Wednesday night, with his family by his side.
O.J. Simpson became widely known as a notorious figure in the United States after being accused of the 1994 murders.
Orenthal James Simpson, known as O.J. Simpson, passed away on April 10th after a battle with cancer, his family announced on X (formerly Twitter).

He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, including his children and grandchildren. The Simpson family kindly requests privacy and understanding during this difficult time.
She explained to Alex Scott and Shona McGarty that the situation was crazy. Someone had playfully tried to scare her by pretending to attack her with a banana, then revealed it was an April Fool’s joke. She said he admitted to it because he secretly wanted to be caught and couldn’t handle feeling guilty, and that he’d been joking around the entire time.
Alex shared in the Bush Telegraph that he was a big fan of Ruby Wax’s shows, having grown up watching her documentaries. He explained that programs like hers have a way of connecting people from all walks of life, introducing him to individuals he never imagined meeting.
After listening to Ruby share her experiences, fans praised her as an icon and started a campaign to revive the BBC show. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask ITV to bring back ‘Ruby Max Meets…’.
It’s wonderful to see so many people becoming fans of Ruby! I knew everyone would feel the same way once they saw her perform – I’ve been a huge admirer for years.
Fans are hoping Ruby Wax stays in the competition, as she’s a beloved figure, and many see this show as a way for her to revive her famous chat show format.
During the show, Ruby remembered interviewing Donald Trump in 1999 and shared how she’d laughed when he told her he aspired to be president.
During the chat, Ruby also spoke about interviewing President Trump.
She described Donald Trump as completely irrational, fueled by anger and arrogance. She also compared him to Bill Cosby, calling him insane as well.
You know, I was chatting with Kelly Brook recently about a truly memorable interview I had years ago. It was, honestly, a bit of a disaster! Donald Trump mentioned he was considering a run for president, and my initial reaction was to laugh. I genuinely thought he was joking – it just didn’t seem plausible at the time. Looking back, it’s a funny story, but definitely my most awkward interview experience!
‘He was looking at me like: ‘what an a*****e. Hatred.

I asked him who he’d date if he lived in the White House. He responded by saying, “That’s enough – you’re the most annoying person I’ve ever encountered.”
Ruby revealed he quickly ended the interview, which ended up only being five minutes long.
Ruby previously told Good Morning Britain that after filming a documentary with OJ Simpson in 1998, he called her on April 1st and jokingly claimed responsibility for the crime, saying, “It’s OJ, I did it! April Fools!”
Ruby explained that after filming wrapped, Simpson told her he had a surprise, which genuinely caught her off guard. She believes it was meant as a joke.
When OJ opened her hotel door to the comedian, he made an inappropriate joke. He later explained he’d actually been searching for a knife.
She explained that she filmed a segment where she said, “I’ve had a makeover and I have no idea who my date will be.” Then, when she opened the door, it would be him.
He went outside and saw all the serving trays. He was pretending to look for a knife, hoping to trick me when I opened the door, but there wasn’t one. So, he ended up grabbing a banana instead.
She remembered when they first met, and said he’d told her his favorite poem was about Lizzie Borden – the woman who was put on trial for, but found not guilty of, murdering her father and stepmother back in 1892.
Ruby believed she could convince Simpson to confess to the 1995 murders, and even hinted he might secretly want her to arrest him for it.
He seemed to be looking for a reason for me to get upset with him. He unexpectedly asked if I wanted to hear his favorite poem, and then he recited the gruesome rhyme about Lizzie Borden, detailing how she supposedly killed her parents with an axe.
OJ died aged 76 last year after a short battle with prostate cancer.
