Spiderweb Software is releasing a remastered version of its classic role-playing game, Avernum 4: Greed and Glory, on iPad December 3rd. Avernum 4, a beloved indie fantasy adventure game featuring turn-based combat, is already available on PC and Mac.

It’s a complete remaster of the original game from 2025, and it actually started the whole Great Trials Trilogy – so it’s a really big deal!

The game takes place far beneath the surface, in a network of caverns, mines, and labyrinths where people have built a life. You begin by exploring this underground world with your own objectives, but soon discover something terrible has happened.

Whether it’s destiny or just misfortune, you’re the hero tasked with saving Avernum from a looming crisis, as others seek the riches hidden beneath the surface. I didn’t get to experience the first game when it came out, so I’m really excited to explore this huge world – the characters, dungeons, and quests all look fantastic.

This remake is special because it’s been completely rebuilt with better graphics, over 20 new quests, and large, explorable dungeons. Despite all these improvements, it still retains the rich story, meaningful choices, and strategic battles that fans adored in the original.

As a fan, I’m really excited about this game! It looks like you can truly shape your own adventure with lots of different groups to interact with. Plus, the character customization is insane – over 100 abilities, traits, and spells! It’s launching on iPad in early December, and fingers crossed it comes to iPhone and Android soon after.
