LEGO Is Launching a (Real) F1 Car, With ‘LEGO Racing’ Joining the F1 ACADEMY Grid in 2026

With the excitement building for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, LEGO Group and F1 ACADEMY have teamed up for a long-term partnership. This means a brand-new LEGO racing car, driven by Esmee Kosterman from the Netherlands, will compete starting in 2026.

Announced at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, this new partnership is a major collaboration for the F1 Academy, the all-female racing series that began in 2023. To celebrate, the first official LEGO Speed Champions set designed for F1 Academy is now available for pre-order.

Esmee Kosterman will compete in her first full season of the championship in 2026. The 20-year-old driver first raced in F1 ACADEMY last year as a wildcard at her home race in Zandvoort, and she’s coming off impressive performances in other racing series, including a historic win in the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup.

Kosterman’s latest car has a unique racing design created by LEGO’s own designers. It combines the excitement of motorsports with LEGO’s bright colors and playful style. The design uses LEGO-like shapes and a checkered pattern on both the car and the driver’s suit, bringing together real racing performance and LEGO’s creative spirit.

This partnership comes as Formula 1 gains popularity, especially with women – now making up 42% of its global fans, according to LEGO Group research. That same research shows young girls are also increasingly interested in racing, with 87% wanting to see more opportunities for women in the sport, and over half envisioning themselves as drivers. This collaboration will build on this growing interest by boosting visibility, representation, and access to the world of motorsport.

The first product of the LEGO and F1 ACADEMY collaboration is a 201-piece LEGO Race Car. It features realistic aerodynamic details, Esmee’s race number (#32), and a LEGO Racing minifigure. This set is made to introduce younger fans to the F1 ACADEMY and highlight the championship’s commitment to supporting female drivers.

This weekend at the first-ever F1 ACADEMY event during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, LEGO will give the top three finishers a special prize: custom-built LEGO Botanical Bouquet sets, each containing over 2,000 pieces.

Head to LEGO’s website now to pre-order the upcoming set or learn more about the partnership.
