Why Sabrina Carpenter Won’t Be Rapunzel in Tangled Movie Revealed

Recent buzz about Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled is highlighting the casting process. Reports suggest that Sabrina Carpenter’s audition for the role of Rapunzel didn’t go as planned, and Disney is now considering other actresses. All eyes are on what this means for the future of the casting search.

New rumor hints Sabrina Carpenter’s Tangled meeting with Disney

Sources say Sabrina Carpenter was being considered by Disney to play Rapunzel in the upcoming live-action remake of Tangled.

A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by @MyTimeToShineHello claims that Sabrina Carpenter met with Disney about potentially playing Rapunzel in a live-action remake of Tangled. According to the post, Disney ultimately decided she was considered too beautiful for the role and sought someone with a more common appearance. The post also mentioned that Bella Hadid auditioned for the part but wasn’t selected.

Carpenter was initially a top contender for the role of Rapunzel due to her previous work with Disney. Disney decided to move forward with a live-action remake of Tangled after the success of the Lilo & Stitch remake, which came after production was briefly halted due to the disappointing performance of Snow White. Casting is still underway as the studio considers various actors.

In a recent Vogue interview, Bella Hadid revealed she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel. She said she was pleased with how her audition went, even though she understood they would likely cast a professional singer. She hinted she might share a clip of her audition sometime in the future.

Early in 2025, industry insiders predicted Florence Pugh was a strong candidate for the part, especially given her work with Disney. Recently, rumors have also surfaced about an actor from the show The White Lotus potentially being considered, but no further information has been released.

The original Tangled film has an IMDb score of 7.7 and holds a Tomatometer score of 89 percent.
