Chadwick Boseman received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, five years after his death from colon cancer. The honor was given posthumously.
It was so moving to see Chadwick Boseman’s closest friends and family come together at the ceremony. There were a lot of tears and heartfelt tributes – especially from his wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman. It was a beautiful way to honor his life and legacy, and you could really feel the love in the room.
Chadwick Boseman, best known for playing T’Challa in the 2018 Marvel film Black Panther, died in August 2020 at age 43. He had been diagnosed with cancer four years earlier.
He was honored with the 2,828th star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. His wife accepted the award on his behalf.
Michael B. Jordan, Viola Davis, and Ryan Coogler were among the celebrities who attended the event.
Many guests were moved to tears by the touching speeches, as they remembered Chadwick’s life and what he accomplished.
Viola shared stories from the stage, recalling her previous work with Chadwick in movies like ‘Get On Up’ (2014) and ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ (2020).
The actress told Hello! Magazine that Chadwick Boseman possessed a special quality – a kind of magic – that everyone is looking for in life: purpose and meaning. She said she’s remembering and honoring him today.
You know, when I heard the news, I honestly just wished him peace. I told someone close to me that I hoped every angel in heaven was there, singing him into a peaceful rest. It felt like the only beautiful thing to hope for.
I’m grateful for the lasting impact he had on me – a constant source of inspiration that helps me find deeper meaning in my work and life’s purpose.
Ryan addressed the audience, and the director had a close working relationship with Chadwick on the set of the 2018 film, Black Panther.
The filmmaker said they continue to honor his memory, and are moving forward with the next Black Panther movie after Wakanda Forever (2022).
He explained that the actor truly earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was a remarkably special person.
He played with light, bending and shaping it to reveal the beauty within all of us and remind us of our common connection. Thank you, Chad.
Simone, his wife, also became emotional while speaking, sharing that her late husband was much more than just an actor or artist.
He was a spiritual leader who drew strength from his strong network of family and friends. They provided unwavering support, believed in his mission, and fiercely defended him.
She explained that he had an incredible capacity for love and generosity, able to connect deeply with everyone he met and still have plenty of himself left to give.
Simone remembered a dream she had shortly after Chad died, in which he told her he’d done all he could. A close friend repeated a similar message just days later, almost as if making sure Simone understood.
Chad’s posthumous star is located not far from the Dolby Theater.
Lupita Nyong’o, who worked with Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther, told Variety that his legacy will endure, describing him as a king who deserves a lasting, important place in history.
Chadwick’s brothers, Derrick and Kevin, were also at the event, along with his Black Panther co-star, Letitia Wright.
During one of the presentations, Coogler was observed with his head in his hands, seemingly lost in thought.

He was a remarkably talented performer whose influence continues to inspire people worldwide, both through his work and his life.
Chadwick passed away in August 2020 at the age of 43 after a four-year private struggle with colon cancer. He received his diagnosis in 2016.
Chadwick Boseman’s family announced his death with deep sadness, releasing a statement saying they were heartbroken by his passing.
In 2016, Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, and for the past four years, he bravely fought the disease as it advanced to stage IV.
They shared that Chadwick was a remarkably resilient person who faced many challenges with strength and still managed to create so many of the beloved films we enjoy.
Chadwick continued to work on films like Marshall, Da 5 Bloods, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom even while undergoing numerous surgeries and chemotherapy treatments.
The statement ended by saying it was a great honor for Chadwick Boseman to play King T’Challa in Black Panther. His family expressed their gratitude for everyone’s support and asked for privacy as they grieve.
Throughout his acting career, Chadwick Boseman also appeared in films like Gods of Egypt (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and 21 Bridges (2019).
He’s also been on TV shows before, including Lincoln Heights and Persons Unknown.
Following his death, Chadwick Boseman received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor and won a Golden Globe, both for his work in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
