Ariana Grande announced she recently tested positive for COVID-19 while finishing up her publicity work for the movie Wicked.
The 32-year-old singer and actress revealed on Instagram Stories Thursday that she had tested positive for COVID-19. She shared a photo from her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with the caption, ‘moments before Covid.’
She received her diagnosis just a few days after missing press events for the New York premiere of ‘For Good.’ She did this to support her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, who was sick and had temporarily lost her voice.
The press tour itself has been anything but smooth.
Ariana Grande didn’t attend the movie’s first showing in Brazil. Then, at the event in Singapore, a fan managed to get past security and ran towards her on the red carpet, causing a brief scare.
Erivo swiftly intervened, stepping in to push the individual away from her co-star.

Oh my goodness, you won’t believe the drama that unfolded at the premiere! Ariana Grande was genuinely frightened when a man, later identified as Johnson Wen, rushed the red carpet. It was a really unsettling moment. Cynthia, who plays Elphaba in the show, was understandably furious and actually jumped over security to push him away from Ariana. It was quite a scene! I’ve since learned that Johnson Wen received a nine-day jail sentence for his actions, which is definitely a justified outcome.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande attended a private screening of their film in Los Angeles on Saturday. Erivo shared that the movie offers viewers a sense of comfort and security, and briefly acknowledged a difficult situation that occurred the previous week.
She explained that the past week, like many others, was challenging. She felt the experience of making the movie had been incredibly valuable, helping them all develop personally, strengthen their friendships, and grow creatively as both people and actresses.
Johnson, a prankster who goes by “Pyjama Man” online, managed to get past security at Universal Studios and briefly grabbed Ariana Grande, putting his arm around her as she tried to get free. Luckily, Cynthia reacted quickly and intervened.
Cynthia Erivo quickly intervened, yelling at the intruder while stepping in front of Ariana Grande. Security guards were able to subdue and remove the man, leaving Ariana visibly upset and shaken on the floor.
Several hours later, Wen posted a disturbing selfie showing them with wide, excited eyes, gesturing towards a poster of Ariana Grande and claiming, ‘I finally got to see Ariana Grande tonight!’
After testing positive for COVID-19, Ariana Grande had to cancel a planned appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Cynthia Erivo will now appear on the show by herself for their scheduled segment.
The singer will also be unable to attend several planned interviews and discussions about the movie in the next few days.

This isn’t the first time COVID has disrupted the Wicked experience for the pair.
Both stars previously tested positive at different points during filming of the first movie.
Just days before filming the iconic song ‘Defying Gravity,’ Cynthia Erivo became ill. Ariana Grande, meanwhile, learned of her diagnosis right before shooting her performance of ‘Popular’.
