Bill Melugin, originally from Orange County, California, is moving to Washington, D.C. He previously reported on the U.S.-Mexico border for Fox News and will now focus on covering Congress for the network.
Fox News revealed on Thursday that Bill Melugin is starting his new job as a congressional correspondent right away.
According to Fox News President Jay Wallace, Bill is well-suited to report on Congress because he’s a determined investigator with a strong grasp of important national topics.
I’ve been following Bill Melugin’s work for a while now. He’s a correspondent for the network here in Los Angeles, and he really became well-known for his reporting on the situation at the southern border, specifically with migrants. It’s incredible – he did over a thousand live reports just from the Rio Grande Valley in 2022 alone! He’s been with the network since 2021, and I always learn a lot from his coverage.
Bill Melugin reported on several significant national news stories, such as the 2025 California wildfires and the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Bill Melugin regularly reports on the southern border for Fox News, providing frequent updates on migrant crossings.
Bill Melugin’s transfer to Washington suggests Fox News is planning a bigger role for him. He’s filled in as an anchor there several times recently, and a full-time position seems likely.
Bill Melugin has hesitated to move away from Los Angeles because he wants to stay near his mother, Audrey, who is a widow and lives in Orange County. However, she told the Times in a 2023 interview that she supports him pursuing any career opportunities that come his way.
She explained that she’s always encouraged him to pursue better opportunities, but he tends to be very considerate of her feelings. She’s grateful for that, but also doesn’t want to be the reason he misses out on something good.
Before working at Fox News Media, Bill Melugin was an investigative reporter for KTTV in Los Angeles. He won three local Emmy Awards for his investigative reporting. While at KTTV, he helped expose photos of California Governor Gavin Newsom dining indoors at the French Laundry restaurant in 2020, while mask mandates were in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before joining us, he worked as an anchor and reporter for Fox TV stations in both Charlotte, North Carolina, and El Paso, Texas.
