Why Nintendo Fans Think The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Hiding Another Villain In Plain Sight

With the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fans are eagerly awaiting its sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, scheduled for release in 2026. A recent trailer offered a first look at some new characters, and many viewers believe more villains might still be introduced in the film.

The trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie revealed Bowser Jr., voiced by Benny Safdie, as a key villain. He’ll be attempting to save his father, who remains small and is being held captive by Mario and Luigi. However, fans are wondering if other important characters from the Mario games will also appear in the film.

An Unknown Voice Could Signal Additional Villains For the Super Mario Galaxy Movie

According to ScreenRant, the latest trailer hints at a theory involving the Megaleg – the massive mechanical creature Rosalina (voiced by Brie Larson) destroys. Since the pilot’s voice doesn’t seem to belong to Benny Safdie, if it isn’t Bowser Jr. attacking Rosalina, then who is controlling the Megaleg?

Fans are already speculating about who a recently revealed voice might belong to. If it’s not Bowser Jr., many believe it’s another key character with a connection to Bowser. Luckily, the Mario games feature several characters who fit that description.

Could The Koopalings Appear In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

The Koopalings first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 as seven unique Koopa characters that Mario had to defeat. Each of the seven – Larry, Morton, Wendy, Iggy, Roy, Lemmy, and Ludwig – guarded the end of a different world in the game, presenting a challenge at each stage of Mario’s journey.

The Koopalings have been featured in many games in the Super Mario series. They first appeared alongside Yoshi in Super Mario World. After the credits of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a hint suggested Yoshi would be in the next film, leading to speculation that it might be based on Super Mario World.

Originally, in Super Mario Bros. 3, the Koopalings were presented as Bowser’s seven children. Later games revised this, establishing Bowser Jr. as Bowser’s only son and portraying the Koopalings as loyal followers instead. However, the initial family connection, combined with other hints, suggests a possible reason why the Koopalings and Bowser Jr. appear together.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie likely has surprises the trailer didn’t show. It’s hard to say what they are, but the film introduces a lot of new characters, including all the Koopalings, Bowser Jr., and Rosalina. We’re also expecting to see Yoshi! We’ll have to wait until the movie comes out next spring to find out everything that happens.
