Where has Henry Cavill been? Fans haven’t seen much of the actor since his memorable cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. He played a different take on Wolverine, playfully dubbed “Cavillrine,” and many viewers hoped he’d take on the role full-time. However, that’s probably not going to happen. It’s more likely he’ll be cast as James Bond than as the lead Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Things could have been different, and Henry Cavill might still be playing both Superman and Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher). However, that’s just how things are. Luckily, Cavill has some promising new projects coming up – mostly large-scale movies, so we might not see any smaller, critically acclaimed films from him right away. He hasn’t historically been focused on awards, with only 14 nominations under his belt, but he remains a beloved actor.
Here’s every upcoming Henry Cavill movie that has been confirmed.

‘In the Grey’

Lionsgate
Henry Cavill is joining forces with director Guy Ritchie for a new action thriller called In the Grey. The film centers around two experts who try to save a negotiator and also features Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González. This marks the third time Cavill and Ritchie have worked together, following their successful collaborations on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, both considered among Ritchie’s best films.
Henry Cavill and Jason Statham both seem to really connect with Guy Ritchie’s style, so fans were happy to hear Cavill was cast again. While some think Statham would have been perfect for another action-packed movie like Wrath of Man, Cavill is also a strong action performer. Jake Gyllenhaal is known for being a flexible actor, so audiences can expect another excellent performance from him. However, the film’s release date is still uncertain due to issues happening behind the scenes.
Lionsgate originally bought the U.S. rights to the film In the Grey in October 2023, planning to release it on January 17, 2025. This was announced at CinemaCon in April 2024, but surprisingly, the release was then delayed in November 2024 due to unfinished post-production work. Later, in November 2025, Lionsgate completely gave up the U.S. distribution rights to Black Bear Pictures. This move likely came after a series of disappointing box office results for director Guy Ritchie’s films. He’s been more successful recently with TV shows like The Gentleman and MobLand, which have performed well on streaming platforms. Now that Black Bear Pictures has taken over, the film is expected to be released sometime in 2026.

‘Voltron’

Saban Films
Currently in production at Amazon MGM Studios, Voltron is a new live-action movie based on the classic 1980s animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The film stars Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, and Rita Ora, and tells the story of giant robot lions that join together to form the powerful, humanoid robot Voltron, who battles against evil forces.
Director Rawson Marshall Thurber says the new adaptation of Voltron will capture the original show’s core themes and feel, while also appealing to a new audience. Fans of the 1980s series shouldn’t be concerned, and newcomers will be able to enjoy it just as much. Expect a focus on teamwork and thrilling action. Plus, Voltron offers a fresh take on the giant robot genre, providing something different from Transformers, which has followed similar storylines for years.
Filming for the live-action Voltron movie finished on May 24, 2025, according to producer Bob Koplar, who shared the news on Instagram. He said the production went really well, and there haven’t been any reports of problems or extra filming needed. It’s currently unclear whether the movie will be released in theaters or streamed on Prime Video. A theatrical release would likely be best, given the extensive visual effects. However, director Rawson Marshal Thurber (known for films like Central Intelligence and Red Notice) probably prepared for either possibility, as he’s made both types of releases before.

‘Enola Holmes 3’

Netflix
A third Enola Holmes movie is planned, bringing back Millie Bobby Brown as the clever teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes (played by Henry Cavill). Himesh Patel, Louis Partridge, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster are also set to return for the film.
While the first Enola Holmes movie was based on a novel by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes 2 drew inspiration from a real historical event: the 1988 matchgirls’ strike. This proved to be a successful change, as the film was very well-received by critics, earning a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and became the most-watched film on Netflix in 93 countries. It’s currently unknown if the next film will follow a book or tell an original story, but audiences can likely expect another quality movie. The film will have a slightly different feel, though, as Philip Barantini is directing this time instead of Harry Bradbeer, who directed the previous two installments.
According to Deadline, Barantini presented his vision for the new installment as a potential turning point for the franchise, similar to how Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban brought a darker, more mature feel to the Harry Potter films. Barantini is a capable director, having helmed all episodes of the popular Netflix crime series Adolescence. His replacement, Harry Bradbeer, is currently working on Spider-Noir with Nicolas Cage, which is expected to debut in early 2026.

‘Highlander’

Netflix
Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Highlander, starring Henry Cavill. Details about the movie first came from Daniel Richtman, a well-known source for film news. The film will feature Cavill as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior who seemingly died in Scotland centuries ago but now lives a quiet life in the present day. However, he’s pulled back into a dangerous conflict when the villainous immortal Kurgan returns, supported by a shadowy group trying to discover the key to immortality. The movie also boasts a strong supporting cast, including Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe, and Djimon Hounsou.
Originally announced in 2021, the project moved from Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment (who owned it since 2008) to Amazon MGM in early 2025. This change opens the door for larger budgets and potential for future TV series based on the story. It seems like a great fit for Henry Cavill, who consistently delivers strong performances in period pieces, as seen in shows like The Witcher and The Tudors, and the film The Count of Monte Cristo. Russell Crowe and Djimon Hounsou also have experience with this type of historical epic, having previously co-starred in Gladiator. Plus, Chad Stahelski, the director behind the John Wick films, is at the helm.
Look, the original Highlander with Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery wasn’t perfect, and honestly, as a critic, I remember some pretty big plot holes. It had a cool premise – immortal warriors clashing across centuries – but it didn’t always land. Still, you have to give it credit. Despite its flaws, it kicked off a whole franchise, including several sequels and even a TV series. There’s definitely room to revisit that world and get it right this time around.
