The movie has faced some backlash, with some viewers claiming it portrays negative stereotypes about women. However, the actors involved have spoken out to support the film.

At the Venice Film Festival, Roberts explained that the movie brings up familiar debates, sparking discussion and renewed interest in long-standing issues.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Ayo Edebiri discussed if the differences between her character, Alma, and Maya Erskine’s character, Maggie, were mainly due to their age difference.

She found it fascinating because it highlighted how our bodies are always connected to politics, yet are also vulnerable and deeply human. She believes one of life’s biggest challenges is balancing those two truths – the political and the personal – simultaneously.

The actress believes there’s a generational divide within feminism, but the current conflict really stems from a personal misunderstanding between two women. This misunderstanding is growing and becoming overly politicized, when at its core, it’s a human issue between them.
