Lily Allen says she‘s both overwhelmed and pleased by how people have reacted to her album, ‘West End Girl’, which explores themes of heartbreak.
As a huge fan, I’ve been following Florence Pugh’s music, and her latest album, ‘West End Girl,’ is incredibly raw and personal. It’s basically a deep dive into her marriage to David Harbour – how they met on Raya, their four years together, and ultimately, the heartbreaking way things fell apart. She doesn’t hold back at all; the 14 tracks are brutally honest about everything.
In an interview on CBS Mornings, the 40-year-old singer discussed how the positive reception to her honest new album has helped her process the breakup. The split reportedly happened because her husband, David, repeatedly cheated despite having an open marriage.
She explained that writing music is a way for her to cope with difficult emotions. It’s incredibly rewarding when others connect with her songs, especially when they recognize the pain and honesty within them – hearing someone say ‘That really resonates with my own experiences’ is deeply validating.
During the interview, Lily also surprisingly revealed she sought treatment at a private center costing £8,000 per week following her breakup. She had apparently confided in friends at the time that she was on the verge of a breakdown.

After discovering her partner’s three-year affair in December and ending their relationship, Lily recorded “West End Girl” in just 10 days. It’s her first new song in seven years.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m seeing a huge reaction to this new album, and it’s really resonating with people. Fans are connecting with the artist’s vulnerability and honesty – they’re really feeling her pain, but they’re also loving her clever and funny way of looking at even the toughest times. It’s a powerful combination!
In an interview with CBS’ Anthony Mason, she expressed being ‘overwhelmed and massively grateful’ for the positive reaction to her album.
Lily Allen, who first became famous on MySpace with her 2006 album Alright, Still, has noticed that the way people are responding to her song “West End Girl” is happening mostly online, much like her initial success.
Oh my gosh, she said it! She actually said it! It’s like she understands me. She was talking about how her very first album just exploded because of MySpace – can you believe it?! She said it was this totally unique moment, something you could never replicate, and she hadn’t felt anything close to it… until now! I nearly fainted when she said that. It’s like she feels the same energy I do right now, the same magic! It’s just… everything. I knew it! This is it! It feels exactly like that MySpace moment all over again!
It’s strange because this is all happening online. I haven’t encountered the songs in public places like stores, and no one has sung them back to me directly yet. It’s been a bit odd, but in a good way. It’s really fun and a little overwhelming.
She said she’s thrilled when her music resonates with others. She explained that she writes songs for personal enjoyment and finds it incredibly rewarding when people connect with them, feeling like her work is understood and appreciated.

At that point in my life, I wasn’t receiving the recognition or support I needed, for reasons I didn’t fully understand.
It feels good knowing people are hearing this and recognizing how difficult and upsetting the experience was, and that they can’t even fathom going through something similar. That’s a validating response.
She jokingly revealed the reason she’d gone to treatment, saying with a laugh, ‘Now it all makes sense why I needed to go!’
Ten months before the song “West End Girl” came out, it became known that the breakup had led Lily to start seeing a therapist.
As a big fan, I was really saddened to read in The Mail on Sunday that things became very difficult for the singer when she got back from her holiday and returned to her home in New York with her husband back in January. It sounds like her mental health really suffered after that trip.

Lily, the mother of 13-year-old Ethel and 12-year-old Marnie, reportedly became upset while at her Brooklyn home thinking about her ex-husband, Sam Cooper, being with someone else in the city.
Returning home was incredibly difficult for Lily. David, who once protected and supported her, now causes her distress.
Lily got her children settled back home and took them to school for the start of the new term. Immediately afterward, she flew to rehab, arriving a day early because she was feeling unstable and needed to get away.
She’s going to spend several weeks at a retreat in the US, where she’ll participate in both group and individual therapy. Sources say the therapy will focus on helping her explore and understand her feelings.
