Mick Jagger goes back to school: Rolling Stones rocker, 82, makes a surprise visit to Dartford Grammar

Sir Mick Jagger made a surprise visit to his old school, Dartford Grammar, in Kent on Wednesday.

Mick Jagger, 82, recently visited The Mick Jagger Centre, a community hub marking its 25th year with celebrations and shows.

Mick Jagger expressed his gratitude to all the music teachers at The Mick Jagger Centre and the school for inspiring students’ passion for music and the arts. He believes music helps us understand ourselves and express our emotions.

Expressing yourself through music – whether by singing or playing an instrument – is a wonderful outlet for all kinds of emotions, from anger and frustration to affection and love.

Music connects us through shared experiences, like singing in a choir, performing locally in Dartford, or enjoying a concert at a large venue such as Wembley Stadium.

Headmaster Julian Metcalf described Sir Mick’s return visit as ‘a wonderful highlight’ for the school.

Mick Jagger officially opened the community center in Dartford, Kent, alongside the Duke of Kent in March 2000. Since then, it has served as the base for both the Dartford Music School and the Dartford Symphony Orchestra.

The facility includes recording and video studios, practice rooms, and gallery spaces for student use.

The center frequently hosts local events like community gatherings, plays, and concerts.

Mick Jagger supports a program at the community center that provides music lessons to over 1,280 children in the area each week.

The project, named Red Rooster, has been going since 2003.

While visiting, Sir Mick presented a trophy to Dartford Grammar’s current basketball team, a sport he also enjoyed playing when he was a student there.

Mick Jagger grew up in Dartford, where he went to Dartford Grammar School. He later studied at the London School of Economics.

Mick Jagger first encountered Keith Richards when they were fellow students in Dartford. Together, they formed the legendary band The Rolling Stones in the 1960s.
