The “Harry Potter” wand has been passed.
Daniel Radcliffe, best known for playing Harry Potter in the original movies, recently contacted Dominic McLaughlin, the actor taking on the role in the new series. He did it the modern way – through regular communication, not by magical owl! He shared this information during an appearance on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday.
Daniel Radcliffe explained that he reached out to Dominic, as he knew people involved in the production. He sent a letter, and Dominic kindly responded with a thoughtful note, as Radcliffe discussed while promoting his Broadway show, “Every Brilliant Thing.”
Filming is currently underway in the U.K. for a new series based on “Harry Potter.” Actor McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, the main character who discovers he’s a wizard when he’s accepted into Hogwarts. Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will star as Harry’s friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

Television
Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will star as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively, in the new HBO series based on the beloved books.
Radcliffe expressed his hope that the young actors were enjoying themselves, and seeing their photos made him feel warm and affectionate.
Radcliffe explained he didn’t want to be a distant figure in these children’s lives. He simply wanted to wish the new student well, telling him, ‘I hope you enjoy it even more than I did. I had a wonderful experience, but I’m hoping yours is even better.’
Daniel Radcliffe played Harry Potter in all eight movies of the original series, beginning with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in 2001 and ending with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” in 2011. He starred alongside Emma Watson, who played the intelligent and bookish Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint, who portrayed the steadfast but occasionally thoughtless Ron Weasley. Together, they formed the central trio of Gryffindor students.
The new “Harry Potter” series coming to HBO will closely follow the original seven books by J.K. Rowling, who is also a producer on the show. Francesca Gardiner wrote and is the executive producer, and Mark Mylod, another executive producer, will direct several episodes.
The new show features Warwick Davis returning as Professor Filius Flitwick, a role he famously played in the “Harry Potter” films. He’ll be joined by a talented cast playing familiar Hogwarts staff members, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Sirine Saba as Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden as Cuthbert Binns, Bríd Brennan as Poppy Pomfrey, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
