The new Supergirl movie is coming out in less than a year as part of the DC Universe, shortly after Milly Alcock appears as Supergirl in the Superman film this summer. James Gunn’s reboot of the DC Universe is quickly introducing its Kryptonian heroes, giving both Supergirl and Superman a chance to be featured prominently.
I’m so hyped for the DCU to relaunch in 2026 with a new Supergirl movie! A fan group called TeaserCon just dropped a concept trailer showing what a live-action version of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – starring Alcock – could look like when it hits theaters next year. You absolutely have to check it out!
The first look at the Supergirl movie also reveals Jason Momoa as Lobo, the popular bounty hunter, continuing his work with James Gunn’s DC Universe. We first see Alcock’s version of Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) in the 2025 Superman movie, where she rescues Krypto the Superdog – a moment that will set the stage for her own film.
The upcoming Supergirl movie will star Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem Of The Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, both important characters from the comic book series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely that the film is based on. David Krumholtz, who plays Kara’s father, Zor-El, shared in a November 2025 interview with Nerdtropolis that the 2026 movie will closely follow the source material.
The movie stays very faithful to the graphic novel it’s based on, ‘Woman of Tomorrow,’ which is fantastic. And Jason Momoa is playing Lobo, as everyone knows. So it’s a combination of that comic book storyline and the Lobo character. I’m really excited to contribute to the ongoing story of Krypton and to explore the history of the House of El.
Rumors suggest we might see a trailer for the Supergirl movie before 2026. Since DC Studios will be at CCXP Brazil next month with a display, they could choose to show off some early footage there.
It remains to be seen what James Gunn has planned for David Alcock beyond the Supergirl movie, but there’s a possibility he’ll return for projects like Man of Tomorrow, scheduled to start filming in 2026. Given that both Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) and Superman (Clark Kent) will be active heroes in the DC Universe, it’s likely these Kryptonian cousins will appear together on screen again soon.
Supergirl is slated to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.
