Fans were surprised when The Simpsons recently killed off Alice Glick, the church organist. Though not a major character, she’d been a regular part of the show for 34 years.

In the recent episode ‘Sashes to Sashes’, the character passed away during Reverend Lovejoy’s sermon and was remembered with a memorial service at Springfield Elementary. It was also revealed that she left her fortune to fund the school’s new music program.

Tim Long, an executive producer on the show, has confirmed the character Alice the organist has died. He told People magazine, “While her music will live on, Alice is definitely gone.”

Alice previously appeared to die in a 2011 episode when she was attacked by a robotic seal and then reappeared as a ghost. However, she continued to show up in later episodes, which left fans wondering if her death was real.

Reacting to her now seemingly-permanent death, one wrote on X: “Alice Glick has gone??! RIP.”

People online were shocked to hear about the character Alice Glick’s death on The Simpsons. One user wrote, “Alice Glick is dead…Again!” Another pointed out this happened before with Larry the Barfly, saying, “First Larry, now Alice Glick. The Simpsons are killing off everyone…”

Barney Gumble, a frequent patron of Moe’s Tavern, unexpectedly died during the show’s 35th season, leaving Homer and his friends to realize they hadn’t really known him well.

When people wondered why Larry’s close friend Sam wasn’t at the funeral, executive producer Matt Selman explained on X (formerly Twitter) that they considered a quick joke to explain his absence, but they’d already used a similar joke with the character Barney.

Sam wasn’t able to join the road trip because bringing back a previously unseen character would have required a completely different storyline.

The show recently depicted a possible future where Marge Simpson dies, but it was just a quick glimpse into what might happen.

Good news for fans of The Simpsons: a new movie is in the works, twenty years after the first one! Interestingly, some viewers have noticed a joke from a 2007 episode that hinted at this long gap between films, suggesting it was all part of the plan.
