Just five days after its release, the Japanese series Last Samurai Standing is already a global success! As of the week of November 10-16, 2025, it’s currently the second most popular non-English show on Netflix worldwide, with 6.2 million views and a total of 31.7 million hours watched.
The limited series As You Stood By is currently the most popular title, racking up 7.8 million views and a total of 65 million hours watched. Following closely behind in the Top 10 are Dynamite Kiss, 50 Seconds: The Fernando Báez Sosa Case, season one of Rulers of Fortune, The Crystal Cuckoo, season one of The Asset, the reality competition Physical: Asia, season three of Delhi Crime, and Heweliusz.

Junichi Okada, Yumia Fujisaki, Kaya Kiyohara, Masahiro Higashide, Shota Sometani, Taichi Saotome, Yuya Endo, Taiiku Okazaki, Kairi Jo, and Yasushi Fuchikami star in Last Samurai Standing.
Following the massive success of Squid Game in 2021, Netflix and other streaming services have been actively seeking similar suspenseful, non-English-language shows. Last Samurai Standing is adapted from a 2022 novel by Shogo Imamura and is being called a blend of Squid Game and the FX/Hulu series Shōgun.
Critics are raving about Last Samurai Standing, giving it a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and calling it a thrilling, visually stunning show – many are even calling it the best live-action series of 2025. Viewers largely share this enthusiasm, with the show earning an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
