The line where the sky meets the sea is calling to the new “Moana.”
Disney released a first look at their upcoming live-action film on Monday. The short trailer features Catherine Laga’aia, who plays Moana, singing part of a key song from the movie. Viewers also get a peek at the beautiful island of Motunui and its people, the demigod Maui, the pirate-like Kakamora, and Moana’s silly rooster, Heihei.
As Moana, Auli’i Cravalho sings at the start of the trailer, ‘I’m a girl who loves my island and the girl who loves the sea.’ She feels a powerful connection to the ocean, declaring, ‘It calls me.’

Stitch, the popular blue alien from Disney’s ‘Lilo & Stitch’, has announced that a live-action sequel is being made.
Those who loved the original “Moana” movie will remember the scene of young Moana enjoying the ocean after finding a seashell. And, just like in the 2016 animated film, Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as Maui, the charismatic demigod, in the live-action version. You’re welcome!
× The live-action remake, directed by Thomas Kail, tells the story of Moana, a young woman who longs to explore the ocean and become a wayfinder. She sets out on a journey, leaving her home island of Motonui, to find the demigod Maui and restore the Heart of Te Fiti, hoping to save her people.
Alongside Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, the movie “Moana” also stars John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as her mother, Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
The trailer ends with Laga’aia triumphantly singing, “I am Moana.”
The popular animated movie “Moana,” starring Auliʻi Cravalho, earned over $643 million worldwide when it was first released. Its sequel, “Moana 2,” was a huge success in 2024, becoming one of only three films to make over $1 billion globally. Auliʻi Cravalho is also an executive producer on the upcoming live-action remake, alongside producers Kail, Scott Sheldon, and Charles Newirth.
The live-action “Moana” will hit theaters July 10.
