‘The Biggest Honor.’ Josh O’Connor Is Nervous About Hosting SNL, Reveals Paul Mescal’s (Not So Helpful) Advice

Following Glen Powell’s first time hosting Saturday Night Live, the show has revealed the rest of its hosts and musical guests for the 2025 season. Among the new faces is actor Josh O’Connor, who will host on December 13th with musical guest Lilly Allen. He admits he’s feeling anxious, but fellow actor Paul Mescal offered him some helpful advice.

Harris Dickinson is set to host Saturday Night Live right before the release of his new movie, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, on Netflix. Even though he appears in the film with major stars like Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, and Jeremy Renner, he admits he was still incredibly excited – and nervous – to accept the SNL hosting job. He told Variety he agreed to do it almost immediately, despite being very anxious about it.

Honestly, when I got the offer, I was absolutely thrilled! It felt like a huge honor, truly iconic, and just… amazing. But if I’m being real, I was also totally terrified. It was a mix of excitement and sheer panic!

It’s completely understandable to feel anxious about hosting Saturday Night Live – it’s a notoriously challenging gig! Even the show’s veterans experience nerves. Fortunately, Paul Mescal isn’t facing this alone. He’s been getting advice from friends who have hosted before, including Barry Keoghan. The two actors recently worked together on the film The History of Sound and have stayed close. In fact, Keoghan, who hosted on December 7, 2024, reached out to Mescal for tips, but the conversation didn’t go quite as he expected.

Honestly, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag with everyone’s help. Paul started out being super supportive and giving me confidence, but then he seemed to lose track of what I needed and ended up just pointing out when I was stressed! Still, I’m really thrilled and feel so lucky to have been asked to do this.

It’s amusing to realize Mescal’s advice wasn’t very useful, but he was definitely supportive and excited for O’Connor. He was also upfront about things. It would have been good to know immediately if he was struggling emotionally. Actually, it might have been comforting for O’Connor to know Mescal was feeling similarly anxious about hosting, even though he didn’t express it well.
