Kate Ferdinand shared that she felt quite emotional when her stepson, Tate, returned home from Dubai. He had flown out there as a surprise for her and her husband, Rio.
The 34-year-old former TOWIE star posted a heartwarming video of their 17-year-old child, Tate, arriving at their new home in the UAE. The family had relocated from the UK earlier this year.
Kate enjoys living abroad, but she really misses her stepchildren, Tate and his 19-year-old brother, Lorenz.
Kate shared a touching moment online, posting a video of a hug with her daughter Tate before meeting her father, Rio, age 47. She captioned it, ‘A memory I’ll always treasure.’
I really enjoy surprising people, and I think I’m actually quite good at it! So it means a lot to me that Tate put so much effort into surprising us. I’ve had an amazing couple of days, but now that he’s gone, I’m feeling really down.
We’re really enjoying our time in Dubai. It’s wonderful to see the kids so happy, healthy, and safe – we feel incredibly grateful.

I really miss Lorenz and Tate! It’s difficult to explain how much, and I’m eagerly awaiting the chance to see them again. I’m counting down the days!
Kate has been sharing updates about her family’s move to Dubai, and recently posted stunning photos of herself in a polka dot bikini while relaxing on the beach with her son, Rio.
In August, Kate and her husband, a former professional football player, left their home in south-east London to start a new life in the United Arab Emirates.
Following their relocation, Rio has slammed the UK tax system and revealed why they made the move.
Kate has been sharing glimpses of their family’s new beginning on Instagram, posting photos of the couple and their children enjoying time at the beach.
Other snaps showed them spending time with close family friends who came to visit over half term.
I’m all about cherishing those close connections, and I recently had a really lovely time with some of my favorite people. It felt extra special, although we definitely missed having the whole family together – especially our sons!
According to the Daily Mail, the couple has purchased a home in the upscale, private community of Al Barari. The luxurious property was listed for 32.5 million dirhams (around £6.55 million) in April.
In a recent interview, Rio criticized the UK’s tax system, suggesting it might be driving more people to leave the country.

The family’s decision to relocate this summer follows Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ recent budget announcement, which included £40 billion in tax increases targeting businesses and high-income earners. These changes include higher taxes on capital gains, inheritance, and private school tuition.
Appearing on LBC Radio, Manchester United and England icon argued that tax rules affecting UK residents aren’t helping ordinary people.
Rio believes people wouldn’t object to paying taxes if essential services, like healthcare, were running smoothly and effectively.
When things are difficult and the country is struggling, I often wonder if our taxes are actually being used to help the people who live here.
‘And that’s the big question that needs answering. I think a lot of us know the answer to that.’
Although the footballer didn’t say it was the main reason for moving to the United Arab Emirates, he did mention that the move has given him more quality time with his family.
He added that he’s been seeing his family more often and enjoying quality time with them, which has been really positive for him.
I’m proud to be English, but I’m excited about starting a new adventure and a fresh phase in my life. It feels like a really positive change.

Ferdinand, who recently left TNT Sports in May, explained his decision in an interview with The National. He said he attended the Global Soccer Awards around Christmas time, an event he hadn’t fully participated in for seven or eight years, but used to attend regularly in the past.
I got to know a different side of the place by spending time with some of Kate’s friends who lived there. I also run a business called Football Escapes in the area.
As someone who’s been following life in Dubai, it’s clear to me that people really thrive there. It seems like a place where families are genuinely happy and energetic, and it’s fantastic for raising kids. It’s the whole package – a great lifestyle, feeling safe, incredible weather, and the chance to start fresh. It’s honestly a really appealing combination.
I was ready for a change. For the past decade, my life revolved around TV work after retiring from playing. When I decided to step back, I realized how much of my life – almost 30 years – had been dictated by the game’s schedule. But that’s no longer the case. I’m still involved in football, but it doesn’t control my life anymore, and honestly, it feels good to have that freedom.
Rio Ferdinand shares two young children, four-year-old Cree and two-year-old Shae, with his wife Kate. Kate is also a stepmother to Rio’s three teenage children – Lorenz, 19, Tate, 17, and Tia, 14 – from his previous marriage to Rebecca Ellison. Lorenz and Tate currently live in England while pursuing their football careers with Brighton and Hove Albion.
