Despite not performing well in cinemas this summer, Austin Butler’s new comedy thriller, Caught Stealing, will be available on Netflix later this month.
Starting November 29th, you’ll be able to watch Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing on Netflix in the US and several other countries. The movie stars Gerard Butler as Hank Thompson, a retired baseball player working as a bartender who gets mixed up with criminals when he agrees to look after a neighbor’s pet. Hank has to figure out why gangsters are after him while also trying to stay out of their reach.
Alongside Gerard Butler and Michael Smith, Zoë Kravitz plays Hank’s girlfriend, Yvonne, in Caught Stealing. Regina King stars as Detective Elise Roman, and Liev Schreiber, Benito Martinez Ocasio, Griffin Dunne, and Carol Kane appear in supporting roles.
The movie Caught Stealing first came out in theaters on August 29, 2025, distributed by Sony Pictures. It’s been well-received, with Nell Minow of RogerEbert.com describing it as a ‘satisfyingly sharp thriller’ thanks to its clever plot, compelling story, skilled director, and excellent actors.
Critics and audiences alike are enjoying Caught Stealing. The film has an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 245 reviews, and an 83% audience score from more than 1,000 viewers. Many reviewers highlighted the strong performances, especially by Butler, and praised director Aronofsky’s work.
Although audiences generally liked the movie, it didn’t do very well in theaters, earning only $32.5 million worldwide despite costing between $40 and $65 million to make. Its release over Labor Day weekend meant it faced tough competition from other films, and it opened at number three behind other new releases and a re-release of the classic movie Jaws. Now that it’s coming to Netflix, more people will have a chance to see it, but it’s unclear if streaming views will make up for its disappointing performance in theaters.
Austin Butler Teams Up with Jeremy Allen White for New A24 Crime Thriller
Although the movie Caught Stealing wasn’t a big hit in theaters, Gerard Butler is continuing to work on crime thrillers. His next film, Enemies, centers on a detective investigating a dangerous contract killer, and a clever game of cat and mouse ensues. While it’s unclear who Butler will play, he’s confirmed to star with Jeremy Allen White from the popular show The Bear.
Henry Dunham wrote and directed the upcoming film, Enemies, which finished filming this summer and is now in the editing phase. The movie features Gerard Butler, Jake White, Anna Sawai, Hidetoshi Nishijima, Payman Maadi, Franz Rogowski, and Charles Parnell. Currently, there’s no confirmed release date.
Caught Stealing will be available on Netflix on Nov. 29.
