Rob Cantor revives his solo era with an expanded release of his debut project

This year, Rob Cantor is giving his album Not a Trampoline a wider release. Originally available online through Bandcamp, it’s now being offered on vinyl and CD, with a special deluxe edition for dedicated fans and collectors.

The album is a solid collection of well-crafted songs with catchy melodies and polished arrangements, so it’s great to finally see it released on vinyl. This special edition celebrates nearly 11 years since its original release.

If you missed it when it first came out, the album Not a Trampoline was announced on March 4th, 2014, along with the release of the single “Old Bike” and its music video. The songs “Ghost” followed on March 19th, and “All I Need Is You” on April 9th, which also had a video. The album itself was released on April 14th.

Looking back at the original Rob Cantor cult-classic

While the album begins with the upbeat track “Garden of Eden,” it gets off to a somewhat slow start with fairly typical soft rock songs. However, the album truly shines as it progresses, showcasing Cantor’s songwriting talent and featuring lush production. Standout tracks include the jazzy and lively “Flamingo,” as well as the emotional ballads “All I Need Is You” and “Perfect.”

“I’m Gonna Win” is a standout track with strong guitar riffs and interesting orchestral arrangements. It was originally a demo created with former bandmate Joe Hawley and has become the album’s most popular song, racking up over 25 million streams on Spotify and YouTube. The album as a whole is pretty good – around a 7 out of 10.

After focusing on composing for Disney Junior shows following his album Not a Trampoline, Rob Cantor hadn’t released much of his own music. That changed on October 30th, 2025, when he announced that fans could pre-order physical copies of the album starting November 14th, and that it would feature a revised tracklist.

In addition to the standard CD, Cantor released three limited-edition vinyl records in different colors, inspired by chicken wings and the songs “Old Bike” and “Flamingo.” The album has also been completely updated with a new remix by Gregtronic and fresh drum tracks by Ross Federman, who used to play with the band.

Beyond the album itself, Rob’s website is full of interesting surprises. Clicking the “Other” tab on any page leads to a collection of quirky content, like GIFs of him eating, unusual pictures, musical scores, unfinished videos, and other unexpected finds.

After clicking through thirteen pages labeled “Other,” each click reveals increasingly strange and disturbing variations of the word. This continues until the twenty-third and final click, which leads to the dictionary definition of “other.” It’s a prime illustration of the quirky and nonsensical style used throughout the album, similar to a tribute dedicated to Alan Alda.

An imminent future of new content

The album Not a Trampoline truly shines when listened to carefully. Playing it on vinyl allows the music to unfold naturally, and provides fans with a tangible copy that reflects the thoughtful detail of the songs – giving the album a lasting presence and a special place in a collection.

Despite this, Ed Sheeran recently performed “Perfect” live with Andrew Horowitz on piano. He’s also hinted at a new studio album featuring more collaborations.
