Rapper Maxon Margiela — born Mason Reyes — has died at just 21.
The rising star passed away in Miami on Sunday, one week after a reported suicide attempt.
The sad news was confirmed by family and colleagues in the music world, and his sister announced his passing on social media, as reported by Somos Hermanos.
I was so saddened to hear the news about Margiela. Reports confirmed he was hospitalized after a recent incident, and unfortunately, he didn’t recover from his injuries. It’s a truly devastating loss for the fashion world and beyond.
The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office verified his death.
An official cause has not yet been released.

I first discovered Margiela when he was just blowing up in the underground – it was incredible! He wasn’t just making music, he was feeling it, and you could hear every raw emotion. It was this amazing blend of hip-hop beats, that super vulnerable emo vibe, and this really gritty, lo-fi sound… I was instantly hooked!
He gained a dedicated fanbase with his 2025 album, which was both groundbreaking and raw, and by putting on incredibly energetic shows.
Immediately after the news was announced, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share heartfelt messages and remember the artist. Many of these posts also called for more support and resources to help young performers cope with the pressures of becoming famous.
